Overview
The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an independent conservation organization, with over 30 million followers and a global network active in nearly 100 countries. WWF’s mission is to stop the degradation of the Earth’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature by conserving the world’s biological diversity, ensuring that the use of renewable natural resources is sustainable, and promoting the reduction of pollution and wasteful consumption.
The Climate Adaptation and Protected Areas (CAPA) Initiative is a 2 years 7 months’ project. The project is funded by International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) as a direct donor and Global Affairs Canada as the primary donor. The main goal of the project is to increased resilience of people – women, men and gender-diverse people to current and future climate change in selected biodiversity-rich ecosystems of the Global South.
WWF Zambia in Partnership with the Ministry of Tourism through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) have planned to address effects of climate change in Mosi-Oa-Tunya and Sioma Ngwezi National Parks by increasing water harvesting for wildlife. WWF and DNPW are now seeking Expressions of Interest from qualified contractors to provide desilting and pond stabilization and associated auxiliary works for eleven natural water-harvesting ponds located within the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. This initiative aims to enhance water conservation, improve habitat conditions for wildlife, and support sustainable park management practices.

– Location: Zambia Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park

LOT 2:
– Location: Sioma Ngwezi National Park & Lower West Zambezi Game Management Area
– Number to desilt – 02 (Sioma Ngwezi) and 02 (Lower West Zambezi Game Management Area))
– Type of water source to restore – Dry pans (Sioma Ngwezi National Park) and Lagoons (Lower West Zambezi Game Management Area)
Project Scope
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to:
- Desilting the designated ponds to restore their capacity and functionality.
- Trenching and smoothening of natural drains to ponds.
- Stabilizing pond banks to prevent erosion and ensure long-term sustainability.
- Mitigate any potential impacts during the execution of the project.
- Implementing best practices in water management and habitat conservation.
- Reconstruction blocked sections as maybe specified by DNPW Engineers.
- Perform any auxiliary works aside from the main task as maybe required to ensure the fit for purpose interventions are fully achieved.
Eligibility Criteria
Interested bidders must meet the following criteria:
- Proven experience in similar desilting and stabilization projects.
- Technical capability and equipment for carrying out the required works.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and practices in Zambia.
- Ability to provide references from previous clients.
- Full Compliance with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Full Compliance with the National Council for Construction (NCC).
- Full Compliance with Water Regulation and Management Agency (WARMA) for Water Works Constructors
- Ability to price the specified materials in the Bills of Quantities (BOQ) with utmost competitiveness.
- Should have in their inventory, a Tractor Loader Backhoe (TLB), Roller Compact and Plate Compactors and 10-Ton Dump Truck.
- Basic understanding of open channel flow and reservoir construction.
- Basic understanding of the principles of Engineering for Conservation of Wildlife.
- Ability to interpret detailed designs and to execute the work schedule with the period of 6 Weeks inclusive of mobilization and demobilization.
- Collaboration with WWF and DNPW Engineers.

3. Technical approach and methodology for the proposed work.
4. Proposed timeline for project completion.

6. Patents and Company Registration Agency (PACRA) Certificate of Registration
7. Valid Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Tax Clearance Certificate
8. Valid trading license (s)
9. Proposed methodology and approach in the provision of required services.
10. Provide 3 written client references

12. EIZ registration
13. NCC registration

Submission Process
WWF Zambia will be considering submission of the EOI with priced BOQ for the provision of services to Desilt and Stabilize Seven (11) Natural Water Harvesting Ponds in Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park and Sioma Ngwezi National Parks, which must be received by email address stated below no later than Monday 20th November 2024 at 5 pm.
