Background information

The Young Women’s Christian Association of Zambia is a Non-Governmental, non-profitable Organization dedicated to the promotion of Human Rights for the empowerment of the community especially women and children for a better society.

Due to the robust nature of the YWCAs work, the organizations’ 2023 – 2027 strategic plan is designed to take action to create change, this is critical to achieving YWCA’s mission to empower and protect women, youth and children through a right based approach and transformative leadership to attain a just society. As a CSO with wide representation across the country, recognizing this, we are seeking to specifically support gender and equity efforts by building the capacity of YWCA staff with regard to their advocacy capacity, and to develop advocacy approaches and strategies that work for their unique contexts.

Objective of the Assignment

To train YWCA staff to create a clear understanding of advocacy, be able to recognize the difference between awareness raising and advocacy.

Scope of Work

Description

The consultant will be responsible for:

1.     Training YWCA staff in political economy analysis, changes in power relationships among stakeholders and development of strategic partnership.

2.     Equip staff with skills in lobbying and advocacy.

3.     Train staff in conducting evidence based advocacy and mechanisms in linkages for advocacy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Training 30 staff for 2 days in political economy analysis, networking, coalition building and advocacy

·       Design and develop Training content , ensure the training platform will have a proof of attendance and participation throughout the process.

·       Conduct the training (virtual).

·       Write a final training report.

Deliverables

1.     An Inception report detailing understanding of the assignment, methodology to be used and timelines

2.     Training plan and Materials for online training

3.     Final Report of the Training

Qualifications

Minimum of a Masters Degree in Political science, Mass media communication/Communication management, Development Studies, Business Administration, Project management, civil society advocacy experience and any other relevant fields.

Experience

At least 5 years’ experience in similar roles and assignments

Good presentation and communication skills

Experience in conducting Advocacy training

Demonstrable experience in working with local civil society organizations
