Zambia Health Education and Communication Trust (ZHECT) is an indigenous Zambian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), registered with the Registrar of Societies in 2001 under the laws of Zambia and dedicated to providing high quality health services, social behavior change interventions, research and capacity building for the improvement of the health status and general wellness of people in Zambia. ZHECT is also a capacity leader and has a wealth of experience in providing Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV prevention and mitigation services to organizations and communities mainly in Zambia. ZHECT also works in the area of Gender Based Violence and Economic Empowerment among vulnerable and hard to reach communities.
ZHECT has been awarded a grant from USAID through Panagora to implement the Localize Global Health Security project in Kalomo, Kazungula, Livingstone and Sinazongwe districts of Southern province of Zambia.
The USAID’s Localize Global Health Security (LGHS) Project’s goal is to work with local entities to address critical health security gaps in public health at the sub-national level in target districts in Zambia using the One Health approach that integrates human, animal and environmental health. The focus of the project will be on prevention, detection and notification of suspected zoonotic diseases through Risk Communication and Community Engagement, working with two other partners- CIHEB and CHZ that will focus on Community-Based Surveillance and Workforce Development.
The purpose of the LGHS Zambia grants program is to further strengthen, establish and sustain Zambia’s implementation of Global Health Security (GHS) priorities and compliance with International Health Regulations (2005) at the sub-national level in the Southern province. Specifically, the Grantees will:
1. Improve the ability to prevent, detect and notify suspected zoonotic disease threats at the sub-national level
2. Strengthen community-level ability to identify, respond and mitigate the risk associated with animal-to-human transmission of diseases.
3. Strengthen or establish multi-sectoral linkages with existing public health security systems and structures to improve timely and complete reporting of events and feedback to the communities of health security threats.
ZHECT is therefore seeking applications from suitably qualified individuals for the following positions:
1. District Coordinator: 2 Positions
Brief Job Description: The District Coordinator will provide strategic leadership, oversee all program activities and ensure effective implementation of milestones. S/He will assist program management in coordinating activities in the districts, liaising with partner organizations and other stakeholders both in the districts and in the operational communities. S/He will also be responsible for supporting monitoring and learning program and ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets. The Coordinator will reporting to the Program Manager at ZHECT headquarters.
Qualifications: Degree/Diploma or equivalent in public health, environment or animal health and at least three (3) years’ experience at project management level.
Strong experience with Behavior Change Communications Programs
Experience working with the One-health approach will be an added advantage
The Coordinator should have extensive experience in executing capacity-building initiatives for Social Behavioural Change to different cadres including volunteers.
Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal supervision and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is requirement
Will lead district based results learning/sharing activities.
