Reporting Line

The Assistant Manager Human Resources — Industrial Relations will report to the Manager Human Resources/Senior Manager Human Resources and will be directly responsible for the line management of the Industrial Relations Section of the Human Resources Department.

Job Purpose

To manage all aspects of the Corporation’s Industrial Relations matters, and to provide a physical support environment commensurate with the Corporation’s Objectives.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure the corporation’s disciplinary code is reviewed once a year in order to be up to date with the changes in Corporation, Labour Market or Laws.
  • To be directly responsible for providing informed, timely and accurate communication to Supervisors and union personnel regarding new initiatives and policies, including relevant regulatory updates.
  • To be responsible for building constructive relationships between all stakeholders both internally (Unions) and Externally (Government Bodies, other industry bodies, and external parties)
  • To maintain disciplinary action database on a monthly basis and share the database with HR Management on the 2n^ day of every month.
  • To monitor internal and external labour relations trends and submit relevant reports to Management.
  • To facilitate the implementation of regular Joint Industrial Relations Meetings between Management and the Union.

Skills and Knowledge required to undertake the role

  • Prior experience in employee relations or industrial relations.
  • Strong experience in dealing with unions.
  • Strong knowledge of HR policies & procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment legislation.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Full grade 12 Certificate
  • Degree in Human Resources Management, Public Administration or any other related field.
  • Fully paid member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resources.
  • At least three (3) years experience from a previous similar position.
