Job Title: Web Developer (2)
Reporting Line: Head Information/Technology
Station: Head Office – Ndola
Type of Employment: Temporary (6 months contract)

Purpose of Role

The Zambia Postal Services Corporation Web Developer is responsible for designing, coding, and maintaining websites and web applications.

This role involves front-end and back-end development, ensuring optimal user experience, functionality, and performance. The developer collaborates with designers, content creators, and IT teams to build responsive and secure web solutions.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

1. Website Development & Maintenance

  • Develop, test, and maintain websites and web applications using programming languages like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP/Python.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and mobile responsiveness.
  • Optimize websites for speed, scalability, and security.

2. Front-End & User Experience (UX) Design

  • Implement visually appealing and user-friendly interfaces using frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Work with UI/UX designers to enhance the website’s look and functionality.
  • Ensure accessibility standards compliance.

3. Back-End Development & Database Management

  • Develop server-side logic using languages like Node.js, Python, PHP, or Ruby.
  • Integrate databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) and optimize queries  for efficiency.
  • Implement authentication and data security best practices.

4. API Development & Integration

  • Create and integrate RESTful or GraphQL APIs for seamless communication between front-end and back-end systems.
  • Work with third-party services like payment gateways, social media APIs,  and cloud storage solutions.

5. Testing, Debugging & Deployment

  • Conduct thorough testing to identify and fix bugs.
  • Use version control systems like Git for code management.
  • Deploy applications on web servers, cloud platforms, or content management systems (CMS).

6. Security & Performance Optimization

  • Implement security measures to protect against threats like SQL injection  and cross-site scripting (XSS).
  • Optimize websites for performance, reducing load times and improving SEO.

7. Documentation & Collaboration

  • Maintain clear documentation of code, system architecture, and development processes.
  • Collaborate with teams, including designers, project managers, and IT support.

Personal Attributes and Skills

  • Detail oriented with technical aptitude and ability to perform function effectively.
  • Capacity to work under pressure prioritizes multi tasks and meet deadlines.
  • High personal standards of professionalism, trustworthiness and high level of integrity.
  • Knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with web hosting, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), and DevOps tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Full Grade Twelve (12) certificate with at least a credit in English and Mathematics.
  2. Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  3. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like React, Angular.
  4. Experience with server-side languages such as PHP, Python.
