ASSISTANT PROJECT OFFICER – WASH SOLARIZATION
The Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) is a Humanitarian Organization established in 1966 by an Act of Parliament CAP 307 of the laws of Zambia as an auxiliary institution that augments government’s efforts in developmental works and humanitarian assistance. ZRCS is part of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). In line with its mandate, ZRCS partners with the Government of the Republic of Zambia in responding to both man-made and natural disasters, including epidemics.

As part of our expansion plans, we are seeking a dedicated, self-motivated and detail-oriented person for the position of Assistant Project Officer to join our WASH Team under Solarization Project.
Job Summary:
The Assistant Project Officer will report to the WASH Officer. He/She will support efforts in designing and undertaking of activities that aim at improving access to clean and safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation practices and understand the trends of diarrhoeal diseases through community structures, in collaboration with local health facilities and other actors, to ensure success and sustainability of the interventions
DUTY STATION – KAPIRIMPOSHI
Key Responsibilities:
Planning, Monitoring Evaluation and Reporting (PMER) responsibility
- Development and execution of Monthly /quarterly plans of action and provide weekly/monthly updates on work to WASH Officer
- Keeping watch, the project schedules, monitoring deadlines for project deliverable.
- In collaboration with the WASH Officer, will participate and support volunteers in data collection and reporting to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders in preparedness and response to Cholera outbreaks in the targeted district.
- Participate in all District Epidemic Preparedness Control and Response interventions
- Work closely with the Ministry of Health in all surveillance activities of diarrheal disease trends in the district.
- Ensure compliance with all ZRCS, donor and Government policies, procedures and guidelines that relate to the implementation of the Solarization Project
- Maintains records that provide for proper evaluation, control and documentation of assigned activities
- Work together with other staff to ensure that key trainings meet the standard required to facilitate knowledge and reinforcement of desired behaviour and practices as it relates to WASH.
- Conduct capacity building of volunteers in case tracking and transmission route interventions, and key WASH tools such as BTIT, CATI, CLTS and PHAST methodologies.
- In collaboration with the ministry of health will conduct periodic water quality monitoring at community and household level.
- In the event of an outbreak, support BRRTs to carry out case tracking and transmission route interventions in cooperation with MoH.
- Develop activity plans and budgets for technical support activities related to WASH.
- Work in collaboration with WASH Officer in the process of generation and timely submission of monthly quarterly, bi-annual and final qualitative and quantitative reports to donors.
Financial and Procurement Responsibility
- Generate requests for funds and requisition for procurement in accordance with the SOP.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of expenditure reports in accordance with ZRCS financial policy.
- Participate in budget reviews.
- Assist the WASH Officer in monitoring and track budget absorption for assigned project.
- Maintain complete record and documentation of stocks and equipment procured according to ZRCS and donor SOP.
- Participate in compilation and submission of financial report reports to the national society and cooperating partners.
Coordination and collaboration - Ensure that delivery of project interventions are people centered by involving beneficiaries throughout the project cycle
- To ensure that the field activities are well coordinated in an effective and efficient manner in line with the project plans and allocated resources
- Develop effective working relationships with local leadership
Qualifications and Experience:
- DIPLOMA or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as: Environmental Engineering Civil Engineering Water Engineering and Management
