The Zambian Carnivore Programme (ZCP) is a non-governmental, non-profit, field-based organization dedicated to conserving large carnivores and ecosystems across Zambia and the broader region through science, action and strengthening local leadership.
ZCP is seeking a bookkeeper who will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of our financial processes, compliance with regulations, and effective financial planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in bookkeeping.
The position is based at the ZCP field headquarters in Mfuwe, South Luangwa, but will also support activities at two other sites in Zambia and an Operations Manager in Lusaka.

Reports to: Head Accountant
Responsibilities
- Accurately enter all programme accounting into QuickBooks accounting system and ensure they are up to date on a weekly basis.
- Monthly reconciliation of petty cash expenditures with QuickBooks for all project sites.
- Maintaining and filing full records of all supporting documentation in either paper or electronic format as appropriate.
- Reconciliation of reimbursement claim forms.
- Assisting in the preparation of monthly payroll – Recording of overtime and public holidays.
- Monitoring all operational business certificates (radio licenses, road taxes etc.) and making sure that these are renewed in good time.
- Assist with other tasks, as requested by the Head Accountant.
The successful candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Registered as a member of ZICA
- Proficiency with QuickBooks (preferred) or other accounting software.
- Ability to accurately record transactions using approved chart of accounts based on an annual budget.
- Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ability to produce reports from accounting software and review for accuracy.
- Ability to consistently adhere to financial management policies and procedures.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English).
