Hallo,
I need some help through this platform. I hold a diploma in education, Degree in Accounting and currently at the Thesis stage of MBA. I statrted my own business, but due to non payment from the government which is behind in its payment, its really difficult for me to manage the costs associated with running the business. Further, in our country, its very difficult to access loans and with the coming in of Chinese malls and other big shops who have enough capital, it has extremely become difficult to compete on this stage. Therefore , the onlyway out is to look for employment. I have applied to many companies through your platform but had not even recieved a single reply. Is there any help one can receive from you in regard to this problem?
Please note that we do review applications – this is done direct by the employer or the recruitment agent who advertised the job on http://www.gozambiajobs.com. What type of jobs are you applying to on http://www.gozambiajobs.com?
It would be great to have some questions and discussion on the best way to apply for jobs and how to succeed at interviews!

The problem we have in Zambia there is too much corruption and nepotism.Hence it is very difficult for one to get a job without having connections or money for corruption. Also regulatory bodies like ZICA have very weak inspectorates. You can find someone with just a grade twelve certificate working as an Accounts Personel while those with papers are just loafing or doing inferior jobs getting peanuts. Its very bad something needs to be done.
Hi Ronald. Thank you for joining the discussion! Do you think that corruption/nepotism is happening just in the public sector or do you think that it affects the private sector the same? What else can be done to create more jobs in Zambia?
I concur with you, i personally even note companies adverting on this site. Yet the vacancy has already been filled, nepotism are corruption are the order of the day thus you find the people who are truly qualified are still unemployed.
Someone will argue on the basis of your CV and writing skills etc but that is not the basis, adverts are placed purely for future use should anybody investigate if the proper process was followed.
Which companies to you personally know who may have used this site? It is self-defeating for firms to employ candidates who were not the most appropriate for the job. Afterall, this would enable the best candidates to be employed to the benefit of a company’s competitors.
If you can, kindly do a Market Survey on various companies. The levels of nepotism and corruption with employment, how women are falling prey to management for them to get employed and the amount of bribes demanded even when qualified.
They are not the most qualified and what you then experience in organizations, is due to the fact that they’re probably “related” to someone even if their unable to perform they will still be kept and some other employee suffers by doing their work as their unable to perform their duties.
They coin it “wako ni wako” i stand to be corrected.
Have you encountered such practices yourself? If so, what do you do when you encounter such practices?
We are online now and ready to answer your questions! Whether you need help with applications or interviews leave a comment below and we will try our best to help.
Goodday everyone,
Jobs are advertised everyday but the problem is that I really do not know if they are real. One can apply to as many jobs as possible but no reply. M y question is that do these advertisers really need people or maybe its just a requirement by the Zambian labour office to advertise jobs when they already have somebody for the position. As somebody pointed earliar, in countries like South Africa and Botswana atleast you can be called for interviews and get rejected just because you are a foreigner. In Zambia, you dont even have a chance for an interview.
Hi Chisenga. Thank you for joining the discussion! If we could just address the point you make about jobs really needing to be advertised let us just say this – we have good relationships with the majority of companies who place job adverts on http://www.gozambiajobs.com and can confirm that the positions need to be filled. Remember that companies that strive to be the best need to employ the best and this means having a transparent and fair recruimtent process. It is self-defeating for firms to employ candidates who were not the most appropriate for the job. Afterall, this would enable the best candidates to be employed to the benefit of a company’s competitors. That is not to say that it is not a problem in some sectors of the economy. Do you think the volume of competition for jobs could be the major factor? Too many candidates chasing too few jobs?
I find the some of the biggest disadvantages in getting a job is the lack of qualification(s) and the experience and necessary experience that employers ask for. How can we get “these” jobs when the prospective employers require so much specification?
Excellent point. How does one acquire that initial experience that many employers request? In our article “What to do if you have little or no work experience” we explore the reasons why employers often ask for experience and what you can do to overcome this issue.
Indeed have seen a lot of nepotism where i work.
Indeed finding a job in Zambia is not an easy task as it is with other African countries like SA, Botswana and the others. The key point in this effort is how to get information of companies that are recruiting.
That is precisely why http://www.gozambiajobs.com was formed back in 2012! We have 3 simple aims that we believe will benefit Zambia:
1. To help employers and job seekers to easily connect in Zambia.
2. To encourage employers in Zambia to take on new employees creating a virtuous circle that will benefit Zambian society in general.
3. To enable those looking for work to access jobs and free careers advice 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
We are continuously striving to improve the service that we provide and to help people in Zambia. Employers can now instantly Post a Job in Zambia and those looking for employment are free to Find Jobs – 24 hours a day 7 days a week. In fact, we offer lots of free services including:
FREE Careers Advice
FREE Email Job Alerts
FREE Weekly e-Newsletter
Hopefully this will go some way to helping those looking to find information on companies that are recruiting.
The biggest challenge is nepotism and tribalism. These vices pose significant hurdles to well versed candidates. The second is like unto the first, bribery and corruption. Creating a saleable CV and persuasive cover letter are among the lesser hurdles much as failing to effectively demonstrate job suitability during interview.
