GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA MINISTRY OF FISHERIES AND LIVESTOCK THE ZAMBIA AQUACULTURE ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT MASTERS AND PHD TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR OFFICERS UNDER THE MINISTRY OF FISHERIES AND LIVESTOCK, FISHERIES DEPARTMENT AND INSTITUTIONS DIRECTLY SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AQUACULTURE SUB – SECTOR

The Government of the Republic of Zambia has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) towards the implementation of Zambia Aquaculture Enterprise Development Project (ZAEDP) under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MFL). The Project intends to apply part of the funds towards offering fifteen (15) training scholarship for academic years 2019/2020 in specialised fields in Aquaculture, fisheries and related fields at Masters and PhD levels. Priority of this Capacity building is for Fisheries Department and institutions supporting the aquaculture sub – sector that is aimed at enhancing production systems in aquaculture in line with the project’s objectives.

Interested Zambian applicants should develop a three paged research concept (introduction, objectives, materials and methods, data analysis, expected use of results in Zambia and references) in line with the project objectives in the following specialized fields of training in project sites:

  • Indigenous fish genetics and breeding
  • Aquatic Animal Health
  • Food fish Safety
  • Indigenous fish nutrition
  • Aquaculture and environmental economics
  • Fisheries resources management related to the use, conservation and management of aquatic genetic resources in Zambia
  • Climate change effects, mitigation and adaptation in aquaculture and fisheries in Zambia

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Qualified applicants for Masters and PhD must have at least a credit in bachelor’s degree and Masters in fisheries, aquaculture and related fields respectively.
  2. Applicants for research at master’s level without taught courses must have a strong background and at least should, possess a merit in fisheries, aquaculture and related fields.
  3. The applicants must not be above 45 years.

Applicants should provide a curriculum vitae and officers from other institutions other than fisheries department are required to justify why the institution is relevant to the ZAEDP objectives.

All applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to working in aquaculture and must possess an acceptance letter to undertake a two years masters or four years PhD training programme from one of the recognised Universities in the SADC region.
