Unemployment levels in Zambia in 2014

At the end of 2013 we asked our community for their views on what they thought will happen to Zambia in 2014.

We have already released the findings relating to how confident people feel about the outlook for economic growth in Zambia in 2014 (see Economic growth in Zambia in 2014 for these findings) and are now able to release the information on expected employment levels.

In relation to unemployment we asked our community the following question:

Do you expect the level of unemployment to increase or decrease in Zambia in 2014?”

Levels of unemployment in Zambia in 2014

As we can see from the chart above, 52% or respondents expect the level of unemployment to either “decrease” (20%) or “stay the same” (32%) in Zambia in 2014.

The remaining 47% expect that the level of unemployment would “increase” in Zambia in 2014.

We will provide a full report on the Go Zambia Jobs Economic Survey in the next few weeks. If you would like to comment on this article please do so below.

  1. How many people were asked? The article above does not seem to mention the umber of people asked and if they were taken from across the country of just from the main city. Apart from that I believe it is a good initiative, which could be used in further projects countrywide in relation with improving unemployment levels. The labor market needs to wake up, get educated and network in order to come up with development enhancing changes that will change the sector for future generations.
