Job description:

Purpose of the role:

  • Reporting to the Superintendent Electrical Infrastructure, you will be responsible for assisting in the establishment of preventative and responsive electrical fixed plant maintenance within the FQM Trident mine process plant: to ensure maximum operational performance is achieved in a safe and cost effective manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance on the installation of new electrical infrastructure operational equipment and systems, replacement of old, faulty or redundant electrical infrastructure operational equipment and systems, inside the process plant as per the company and vendor’s safety and quality specifications.
  • Provide guidance on the electrical infrastructure equipment to have the correct hardware interlocking and safety parameter settings for safe and effective operation.
  • Provide guidance on the companies planned and preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for infrastructure electrical equipment.
  • Provide guidance on all safety logbooks regarding inspections and authorizations according to the FQM Trident logbook procedure.
  • Provide guidance on stock levels of electrical infrastructure equipment to be held in the warehouse and report all defective or substandard equipment to your direct supervisor.
  • Provide guidance on the correct type of all hand tools, required for the work within the infrastructure electrical section.
  • Provide guidance on the safe usage of all mobile / hydraulic tools, required for the work within your section.
  • Provide guidance on the reporting of defective tools, the correct usage and control of hand tools.
  • Provide guidance on all mine site electrical infrastructure drawings to be kept up to date and verified for redlined updates to be submitted to the drafting section for redrafting.
  • Provide knowledge and skills training for onsite personal, through our VFL program.
  • Assist in identifying of needs for specialised training requirements within the infrastructure area of responsibility.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, training and supervising all infrastructure electrical functions. This include safety, scheduling, engineering specifications, material control and day to day direction on technical information.
  • Assist in creating of downtime / lost time, reports in a timely manner and presented to senior staff after each substantial production loss (due to equipment failure in the fixed plant), for evaluation and escalation to senior management.
  • Provide technical guidance, recommendations and inspections on infrastructure maintenance items as required.
  • Assist in troubleshoot / fault find and identifying of problems within the electrical infrastructure maintenance section.
  • Performance management to achieve required electrical infrastructure maintenance KPI’s.
  • Oversee that the planning of all electrical infrastructure maintenance equipment is compliant with the company standards.
  • Provide guidance on infrastructure maintenance tasks to be carried out in a safe, timely and efficient manner, to ensure maximum reliability as per policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties as directed by your direct supervisor.

Qualification, Experience & Skill:

  • G12 Certificate
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution or an equivalent electrical qualification.
  • 7 years’ experience in an electrical infrastructure environment, working as an appointed electrical engineer.
  • Maintenance and operating knowledge of electrical medium and high voltage systems, protection calculations and settings.
  • Maintenance and operating knowledge of HV and MV electrical transformers.
  • Maintenance and operating knowledge of generator / power plants.
  • Maintenance and operating knowledge on the use of electrical HV & MV measuring technology and equipment.
  • Ability to read, train and understand electrical & P&ID drawings.
  • Experience / knowledge in the construction, operation, maintenance and fault-finding of overhead power lines, as well as medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure equipment.
  • Experience and knowledge in Siemens, ABB and Schneider protection equipment, used on infrastructure / reticulation networks.
  • Experience and knowledge in SF 6 gas, medium voltage circuit breakers. Used onsite are ABB, however knowledge of SF 6 breakers from other manufacturers will be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated applications of continuous improvement plans for reticulation networks.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to technological changes in high voltage electrical infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work safely and improve team safety awareness.
  • Certification for LV & MV switching from the Zambian MSD will be essential.
  • Computer literate in all the Microsoft packages.
  • A valid Zambian vehicle driving permit.
  • Registered as a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Registered as a member of the Engineering Registration Board of Zambia (ERB).
