Mabiza Resources Limited (“Mabiza”) operates the Munali Nickel Mine (“Munali”), which is in the Mazabuka District, 75kms south of Lusaka, Zambia. Mabiza is a wholly owned entity of Consolidated Nickel Mines Ltd.

The Mine is a modern, world-class facility with fully mechanized underground operations. To support this vision. Mabiza is seeking the services of an experienced and qualified individual to take up the position of:

1.  Role: SHIFT BOSS (X 2) Development and Stopping

Reporting: Mine Captain – Production

 Job Purpose: 

Ensure quality work is delivered and meet planned production targets and enforce company rules, standards, procedures, and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Enforce compliance to all mining plans, layouts, and schedules.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment in use are fit for purpose.
  • Developing and mining the stopes according to the survey measurements and mining them as designed in the long-term mine plans.
  • Ensuring that the overlying ground in the stopes is naturally supported by permanent pillars left in the ore body as the ore is extracted between them.
  • Ensure that the mining crew understands daily, weekly, and monthly planning targets and that every crew member understands his duties and responsibilities.
  • Manage the movement of ore at the correct head grade to the ROM pad.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 certificate
  • Diploma or Degree in Mining
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience in a reputable mine.
  • Must have “Rock Breaker – RBs Certificate (Trained)”
  • Able to take the role of Mine Captain or Underground Manager
  • Holder of a valid Blasting License & First Aid Certificate
  • Exposure to sub-level open stope and backfill mining operations is a must.

2. Role: Rock Scaler Operators (X 3)  

Reporting: Shift Boss

Job Purpose:

Breaking up of big boulders/rocks underground too facilitate safe and efficient loading operations into Dump Trucks. This will also reduce damage to Loaders and Dump Trucks.
Remove loose and potentially dangerous rock material from side walls.
Scaling/Barring of loose rocks from the hanging wall in underground excavations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring work is done to the given specifications and to the adopted standards.
  • Perform daily fluid level checks on oil, water and fuel, visual inspection for obvious leaks and damage to machine before operation of equipment as well as safety equipment checks.
  • Ensuring work is done to the given specifications and to the adopted standards.
  • Employ SOPs and SWPS to make service works comply to standards.
  • Ensure the crew undertakes workable check lists inspections and understand the nature of job.
  • Preparing and positioning plant for operation on site.
  • Operate the machine and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Work with ground personnel.
  • Scaling of side and hanging wall in underground excavations to make the workplace safe.
  • Working from drawings, markers, and verbal instructions.
  • Remove obstructions from sidewalls and footwall that poses a risk to tyre and rim damage.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least a grade 12 school certificate.
  • 3 years minimum experience operating in the Rock Scaler machine underground environment and pecking works and related works.
  • Grade 12 level is preferred.
  • Must be able to understand work directions.
  • Able to communicate effectively with Job site supervisors.
  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Holder of the Valid Zambian Blasting License for all Mining operations.
  • Hazard identification and control measures.

3. Role: Utility Vehicle (UV) – Scissor Lift (X 3)          

Reporting: Shift Boss

Job Purpose: 

  • To operate machinery safely and effective.
  • To provide safe transportation of material and equipment, a safe lifting platform for Stopping and Development Charging-up operations.
  • To provide a safe lifting platform for Development examination and marking operations and a safe lifting platform for Mining and Engineering construction activities.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring work is done to the given specifications and to the adopted standards.
  • Perform daily fluid level checks on oil, water and fuel, visual inspection for obvious leaks and damage to machine before operation of equipment as well as safety equipment checks.
  • Ensuring work is done to the given specifications and to the adopted standards.
  • Communicating with control room/Dispatch staff to notify them of any equipment malfunctions so they can be resolved quickly.
  • Maintaining the equipment in good working order by performing regular maintenance checks and adjustments as needed
  • Operating machinery to move materials from warehouses to underground.
  • Responding to emergencies such as fires or other situations that threaten life or property.
  • Monitoring machinery performance to ensure that it is operating safely.
  • Reporting any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to supervisors immediately
  • Communicating with co-workers to coordinate tasks efficiently and safely
  • Must respond quickly to any emergencies that may arise.
  • To perform routine inspections maintenance on the equipment as well as report any mechanical issues or concerns to a supervisor.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2 years minimum experience in operating a scissor lift., preferably lift certified.
  • Grade 12 level is preferred.
  • Must be able to understand work directions.
  • Able to communicate effectively with Job site supervisors.
  • Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
  • Holder of the Valid Zambian Blasting Licence for all Mining operations.
  • Hazard identification and control measures.

4. Dozer Operator (X 1)    

Reporting: Shift Supervisor (Services)

Job Purpose:

  • Build the waste dump, profile it to standard and stable walls for efficient dumping and loading of waste rock.
  • Carry out fire brake works and other jobs requiring the dozer.
  • Ensures work quality is of high standard to ascertain the safety and well-being of all personnel and assets.

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring work is done to the given specifications and to the adopted standards.
  • Employ SOPs and SWPS to make service works comply to standards.
  • Use proper PPE.
  • Pass the tests for operation of equipment according to local SOP and get ticketed.
  • Carrying out ramp construction and profiling of the waste dump
  • Create fire brakes around the mine area fence.
  • Maintaining roadways
  • Conducting QA/QC of works
  • Ensure proper communication as works are underway.
  • Lead by example and ensure excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to engage other employees and building a strong reliability/productive team.
  • Lead by example in time management and work execution.
  • Conducting safety sensitisation for all tasks.
  • Getting correct instructions for execution
  • Ensuring communication with line-up supervisor for materials, machines and equipment needs
  • Feedback for proper completion of works before demobilising.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least a grade 9 school certificate.
  • Experienced in dozing works and other service works.
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in dozing and related works.
  • Safety conscious
  • Socially oriented person
  • Good at interpersonal skills
  • Hazard identification and control measures
