The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Fireman in the Estate Support Department:

The position reports to the SHERQ Officer – Fire and Emergency Response

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • To take charge of the shift fire team and ensure they are available in case of Emergency.
  • Conduct a Shift roll call of fire team members on shift.
  • Inspect and record all emergency equipment at the fire center and on the register and in the OB book.
  • To lead other team members to fight fire whenever called upon.
  • To keep an up-to-date inventory of all fire equipment.
  • Conduct daily inspections of fire equipment in all fire points to ensure they are available for use whenever required.
  • Arrange for replacement of any fire equipment that is defective or not in place.
  • To test the fire pumps every shift and report any defects to the relevant maintenance personnel.
  • To test fire hoses once a quarter in order to identify any defects that maybe in them and repair any such defects that are repairable then report defects that cannot be repaired to the SHERQ Officer – Fire and Emergency Response.
  • Record any defects on fire equipment and report to the SHERQ Office – Fire and Emergency Response.
  • Supervise the quarterly servicing of fire equipment by the external contractor.
  • Conduct fire equipment demonstrations periodically.
  • To attend all trainings with the aim of familiarizing oneself with the most efficient methods of combating fires with the highest probability of occurrence on the premises.
  • To work and practice with the other team members to obtain the highest state of preparedness.
  • Conduct fire equipment demonstrations periodically.
  • Conduct inspections of hot work areas before and after the hot work is done in order to ensure the work is safely done.
  • To Inspect work areas daily in order to identify fire hazards and advise section officials on measures of preventing any fire.
  • To carry out inspection for the confined space permit and sign on and off.
  • To record any unsafe acts and conditions noticed during the daily patrols of the work areas and report to the section officials and the SHERQ Officer – Fire & Emergency Response.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • 2 years’ experience in dedicated Fire and Emergency Role.
  • Basic Fire Fighting certificate from a nationally recognised training institution.
  • Knowledge in safety management is an added advantage.
