Job Title:Contracts Manager – Lumwana Expansion Project
Location: Lumwana Mine Site, North-Western Province, Zambia

Job Purpose
The Contracts Manager will lead the full lifecycle management of project contracts for the Lumwana Expansion Project. This role ensures legal and commercial compliance, risk management, and efficient execution of contracts across engineering, procurement, and construction packages. The position requires strong contract negotiation, drafting, and administration skills, with an emphasis on compliance with Zambian regulations and alignment with South African professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Draft, review, negotiate, and manage all contracts (EPC, procurement, services, subcontracts) in alignment with project objectives and legal frameworks.
Lead contract administration processes including change control, variation orders, claims management, and contract close-out.
Collaborate with legal, procurement, and engineering teams to ensure contractual obligations are met and risks are minimized.
Ensure all contracts are compliant with Zambian labour laws, mining regulations, and internal governance standards.
Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance, identifying non-compliance and enforcing corrective actions.
Provide advice to project leadership on contractual risk, legal exposure, and mitigation strategies.
Maintain a structured document management system for all contract files and correspondence.
Lead dispute resolution processes where necessary, liaising with legal advisors and stakeholders.
Support training and knowledge transfer to local staff in compliance with Zambian immigration requirements.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Qualifications
Minimum of an NQF Level 7 qualification (equivalent to a Bachelor's degree) in:
Contract Management
Quantity Surveying
Construction Management
Law or Commercial Law
Business Administration with a commercial focus
Certification in contract frameworks such as FIDIC or NEC is preferred.
Experience
5–7+ years of experience managing contracts in large-scale mining, infrastructure, or construction projects.
Proven track record with EPC contracts and project delivery.
Strong experience in managing cross contracts and regulatory compliance in Southern Africa.
Skills & Competence
Strong negotiation, legal interpretation, and risk management skills.
Deep understanding of contract law, procurement procedures, and dispute resolution.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and contract management tools.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Legal & Immigration Compliance
Must meet eligibility for a Zambian Employment Permit:
Sponsored by employer with full documentation support (including proof of advertisement, justification of expatriate need, qualifications, and employment offer).
Willingness to mentor Zambian counterparts as per labour regulations.
Understanding of the Zambian Employment Code Act No. 3 of 2019, including:
Maximum working hours: 48 per week
Leave entitlements (annual, sick, maternity/paternity)
Social security obligations (NAPSA, NHIMA)
Termination, repatriation, and work permit surrender requirements
