PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The purpose of this consultancy is to build the capacity of the PRS 365 team’s business development capabilities, enabling staff to identify opportunities and confidently market the firm’s services through enhanced skills in lead generation, proposal writing, strategic pitching and client relationship management. Specifically, the training will aim to achieve the following:
• Enhance Knowledge: Impart knowledge of the full business development lifecycle, from prospecting to closing.
• Develop Practical Skills: Equip the team with practical, actionable marketing skills in lead generation, networking, client needs analysis, and persuasive communication.
• Improve Conversion Rates: Develop practical strategies to improve the conversion rate of proposals and pitches into secured contracts.
• Foster a Business Development Culture: Instil a proactive business development mindset across the team by strengthening current BD practices and strategies.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Business Development Consultant will perform the following tasks:
1. Training Needs Assessment
• Conduct a rapid assessment of the team’s current business development strategies and skills, and identify key capacity gaps and areas for improvement.
2. Training and Coaching Deliver practical training to include the following:
• Identifying opportunities, understanding the business landscape for a B2B Zambian consulting firm, client needs analysis and obtaining competitive market intelligence.
• Strategic prospecting and lead generation techniques for identifying high value business (prospecting, pitching, closing deals).
• Marketing fundamentals (positioning, messaging, compelling storytelling, convincing presentations, and handling objections).
• Client relationship management and negotiation including strategies for building long-term partnerships and basic negotiation for consulting services.
• Persuasive communication. Equip the team with communication skills for different client types (donors, private sector, government).
3. Development of Tools and Materials
• Create simple, practical BD tools for the team (e.g., client engagement checklist, elevator pitch guide, sales tracking template) to enhance PRS’ BD strategy.
• Support the development of a PRS 365 pitch deck/service profile to use during client meetings.
4. Follow-Up Support • Offer limited post-training support (e.g., 2–3 follow-up sessions) to ensure skills are applied.
DELIVERABLES
The Business development consultant will deliver the following:
• Brief report on training needs assessment.
• 2–3 days of training sessions delivered to PRS 365 team.
• Training materials (slides, handouts, tools).
• A practical business development toolkit for PRS 365 staff (pitch guide, client engagement template).
• A short report on training outcomes and recommendations for continued capacity strengthening.
TIMELINE
• The consultancy is expected to be completed within 10 working days over 1 month period
• Location: PRS 365 office in Lusaka (with some virtual support if needed).
REQUIRED EXPERTISE AND QUALIFICATIONS
The Business Development Consultant should possess the following qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Marketing, Business Development, Communications, or related field.
• Proven experience in training and capacity building in Business Development, sales/marketing for firms focused on B2B businesses.
• Experience developing business development strategy plans.
• Familiarity with consulting, research, or development services sector.
• Strong facilitation and coaching skills, with ability to make sessions practical and engaging.
• Ability to develop easy-to-use sales tools for non-marketing professionals.
