Zambia Sugar Plc. is subsidiary of Associated British Foods under the ABF Sugar Division and is the leading Sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products within Zambia and the regional African market.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position in the Corporate Affairs Department:
INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER x 1 – PERMANENT
CORPORATE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)
This position reports to the Corporate Affairs Director.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop integrated reputation management strategies in conjunction with Corporate Affairs Director and Human Resources Director.
• Develop and implement the internal communications plan for the Company to ensure that employees understand the Company’s values, strategic direction, and goals.
• Support Safety and other internal communications in conjunction with departmental communications in an effective manner.
• Actively promote the Company's culture and values, creating an emotional connection between employees and their workplace.
• Serve as an in-house communications support to Executives. Prepare speeches for the Executive team for internal events.
• Ensure information about every event is available on the Group’s Communications platform and details of every employee are properly populated to support efficiency of employees in their respective roles.
• Continuously monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communications initiatives to make appropriate improvements and recommendations.
• Coordinate and manage communication of information in the Company to employees and local stakeholders via internal communications channels including the Whitespoon magazine, toolbox talks, section meetings, departmental meetings, Managing Director’s Business Forum or town halls and other employee digital engagement channels.
• Support the Corporate Affairs Director with external communications.
• Manage all crisis communications in line with the company policy.
• Promote relationship with the Union through regular engagement with monthly updates to union leaders.
• Promote Zambia Sugar at all Associated British Foods (ABF) group events.
• Provide assistance in the coordination of social investment activities for the Company and promote volunteerism among employees.
• Coordinate the reception of the Company’s corporate visitors at the Company’s estate, factory or acknowledged sites.
• Manage the Business Alignment Sessions (BAS) in collaboration with Learning and Development (L&D) section.
• Update employees on new- comers, those exiting and other upcoming Company events to ensure alignment and desired support to enable attainment of objectives.
• Promote awareness on all Company programmes that are to be communicated externally using internal communications channels before the activities are promoted externally.
• Gather employee feedback and input to build a sense of value and ensure employees feel heard and involved in the company's direction.
• Ensure compliance among all employees in the use of the corporate branding guidelines (font size, font type, email signature, letterhead, business cards, envelopes, power point, memo, letter templates, positioning of logos and other elements on Company signage, etc.
• Promote and adhere to Zambia Sugar’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
• Execute any other work that may be assigned to you by your supervisor from time to time.
Minimum Requirements
• Full Grade 12 Certificate
• Degree in Communications, Commerce, Public Administration, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration, or equivalent qualification.
• Preferably 5 -7 years in communications field with at least 3 years at management level.
• Knowledge in developing an organization-wide strategy for program excellence.
• Knowledge in evaluating communication effectiveness.
• Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Conversant with communications strategies.
• Ability to run communications programmes to build formidable reputation of brand in company performance and customer-focused, with the ability to work well in a team.
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
