Our client, a Logistics company in Mozambique is recruiting for the following positions to be based in Maputo.
- Accountant
- Import & Export Executive
Note: These positions are open to Mozambican nationals only.
(1) Accountant
Job Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Mozambican accounting standards, tax legislation, and statutory requirements. The role supports management through timely financial reporting, strong financial controls, and reliable financial analysis to enable sound business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Maintain complete and accurate books of accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS where applicable).
- Record all financial transactions, including journals, accruals, provisions, and adjustments.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Perform bank, ledger, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure effective cash flow management.
Taxation & Statutory Compliance
- Prepare, review, and submit all statutory tax returns in compliance with Mozambican legislation, including:
- IVA (Value Added Tax)
- IRPS (Personal Income Tax)
- IRPC (Corporate Income Tax)
- Ensure timely payment of taxes, statutory deductions, and regulatory fees.
- Liaise with the Autoridade Tributária de Moçambique (ATM) and other regulatory bodies as required.
- Prepare documentation and schedules to support internal and external audits.
Payroll & Labour Compliance
- Process payroll accurately and on time, including statutory deductions and benefits.
- Ensure compliance with labour laws and social security requirements (INSS).
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee tax documentation.
Budgeting, Analysis & Controls
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analysis reports.
- Support management with financial insights and cost-control recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain proper financial records, files, and audit trails.
- Support improvements in accounting systems, processes, and controls.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and integrity of financial information.
Qualifications & Professional Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognised institution.
- ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or an equivalent internationally recognised accounting qualification.
Professional Registration (Mandatory)
- Registered with the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados e Auditores de Moçambique (OCCAM) or any other legally recognised accounting professional body in Mozambique.
- The successful candidate must be in good standing with the relevant professional body and comply with all ethical and professional standards prescribed by law.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant accounting experience, preferably within Mozambique.
- Proven experience in Mozambican tax compliance, statutory reporting, and regulatory requirements.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Mozambican accounting standards, tax legislation, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills in Portuguese (mandatory); English is an added advantage.

(2) Import & Export Executive
Job Purpose
The Import & Export Executive will be responsible for managing and coordinating all import and export operations, ensuring efficient shipment of goods, full compliance with Mozambican customs regulations, and effective liaison with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities. The role requires proven experience in shipping and international trade operations.
Key Responsibilities
Import & Export Operations
- Coordinate end-to-end import and export processes, including documentation, shipping schedules, customs clearance, and delivery.
- Ensure timely shipment and receipt of goods in line with contractual and operational requirements.
- Monitor cargo movement and proactively resolve delays or operational issues.
Shipping & Logistics Management
- Liaise with shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, port authorities, and transporters.
- Arrange bookings, container allocation, and shipment tracking for sea, air, and road freight.
- Manage Incoterms, freight costs, demurrage, detention, and port charges.
Customs & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Mozambican customs regulations, trade laws, and international shipping standards.
- Prepare, verify, and submit all import and export documentation, including:
Bills of Lading
Commercial Invoices
Packing Lists
Certificates of Origin
Import/Export Permits and Licences
- Coordinate customs inspections and audits where required.
Cost Control & Reporting
- Monitor logistics and shipping costs to ensure cost-effective operations.
- Prepare shipment reports, cost summaries, and operational updates for management.
- Maintain accurate records of import and export transactions.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, internal departments, and external service providers.
- Provide shipment updates and resolve client or supplier queries related to logistics and trade.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in import and export operations, with proven experience in shipping.
- Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, Incoterms, customs documentation, and port operations.
- Practical experience working with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs clearing agents in Mozambique.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of international trade and shipping regulations.
- Excellent organisational and coordination skills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Office and logistics/ERP systems.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Fluency in Portuguese is essential; English proficiency is a strong advantage.
