Job Purpose
The Field Technical Operations Officer (Refrigeration and Solar Equipment), based in Itezhi-Tezhi, is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of refrigeration and solar equipment at Community Energy Hubs (CEHs). This role ensures that all systems operate efficiently and reliably, minimizing downtime and supporting the sustainability of energy solutions. The position requires hands-on expertise in refrigeration systems, solar power equipment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of refrigeration and solar equipment, ensuring systems are correctly set up and meet operational requirements;
- Following manufacturer instructions and company protocols to complete installations accurately and safely;
- Performing scheduled maintenance on refrigeration and solar equipment to ensure optimal performance;
- Conducting regular inspections to detect potential issues before they become major problems;
- Cleaning, lubricating, and replacing components as necessary to prolong equipment lifespan;
- Diagnosing and troubleshooting system malfunctions and perform repairs in a timely manner;
- Using appropriate tools and techniques to resolve mechanical, electrical, and system-related issues;
- Communicating with hub operations personnel and the technical team regarding service needs and providing clear explanations about the condition of technical systems;
- Providing training to customers on proper system usage and maintenance to ensure longevity and efficiency;
- Completing service reports, work orders, and maintenance logs, documenting all actions taken during field visits;
- Maintaining accurate records of equipment repairs, parts used, and time spent on site;
- Reporting any recurring issues to management for further analysis;
- Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations when working on-site and handling equipment;
- Ensuring all work meets local codes and industry standards, especially concerning solar energy systems and refrigeration equipment.;
- Maintaining and managing the inventory of tools, parts, and equipment required for service and repairs;
- Working closely with other technicians, engineers, and office staff to ensure smooth operations of technical processes;
- Sharing technical knowledge and insights to improve team skills and performance;
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support operational and organizational needs.
Qualifications
- Full Grade 12 Certificate;
- Diploma in HVAC, refrigeration, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred;
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in field service, with a focus on refrigeration systems, solar energy, or related equipment;
- Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability to remote working conditions;
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
- Willingness to live in Chibombo District;
- Must be open to traveling as required for work-related assignments, including site visits, installations, maintenance, stakeholder engagements, and other operational needs;
- Mandatory: Valid motorbike rider’s license;
- Preferred: Valid manual driver’s license for additional mobility.

- Experience in preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and longevity.

- Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to users and teams.
- Ability to train end-users on proper system use and basic care.
- Accurate documentation and reporting of maintenance activities and recurring issues.
- Competence in managing tools, spare parts, and technical resources.
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and willingness to take on additional operational responsibilities.
