Position: Bible Translator (Nyanja Team)
We are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Bible Translator to join our Nyanja Bible Translation Team. In this role, you will play a vital part in translating Scripture into the Nyanja language with clarity, accuracy, and cultural relevance. You will work closely with a committed team of translators, reviewers, and consultants to ensure that God’s Word is faithfully communicated and meaningfully understood by Nyanja-speaking communities.
What We are Looking For
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in the source language (e.g. Biblical Hebrew, Greek, or a major gateway language).
- Excellent command of the target language, including grammar, style, and idiomatic expression.
- Strong knowledge of relevant subject matter—biblical culture, history, theology, and common interpretations.
- Understanding of translation principles, methods, and global standards (e.g., meaning-based translation, equivalence theory).
Practical Skills
- Skilled in written communication with an eye for clarity and accuracy.
- Proficiency in computer use and digital tools relevant to translation.
- Problem-solving ability and effective use of translation resources and software.
- Capable of textual analysis, exegesis, and interpreting complex source material.
Personal Qualities
- Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
- Curious, open to learning, and respectful of linguistic and cultural diversity.
- Demonstrates high standards of Christian ethics, confidentiality, and integrity in translation work.
- Willing to align with the ethos and values of the Bible Society.
