African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the full rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. The organization currently manages 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries, covering more than 20 million hectares. These countries include Angola, Benin, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Kafue National Park is recruiting a disciplined, proactive Control Room Supervisor to lead its 24-hour operations hub. This role ensures real-time communication, asset tracking, and emergency coordination across the park, supporting law enforcement and conservation management.
Position Background and Purpose
The Control Room serves as the central hub for monitoring, recording, and reporting all operational activities, supporting effective law enforcement and overall operations across multiple sites within Kafue National Park (KNP).
The objective of the Control Room Manager is to maintain an efficient, secure, and continuously operational Control Room that enables real-time communication, situational awareness, and operational coordination between Command (Head Office and Departments) and Operations (remote and field teams), in support of effective law enforcement and conservation management.
The position requires high levels of confidentiality, alertness, and adherence to KNP operational protocols. This position also requires good leadership and organisational skills to impart knowledge and ensure systems are followed by the Control Room Officers. This position ideally suits people with operational expertise within in the aviation industry and or real time command and coordination response units.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all communication channels, ensuring strict adherence to aviation‑grade radio procedures.
- Monitor real-time movements of teams, aircraft, and assets using tracking technologies.
- Ensure accurate coordination and relaying of operational messages between command and field teams.
- Maintain situational awareness across the park through aerial radio traffic management, situational interpretation, and multi-channel communication monitoring.
- Lead the emergency response communication process and ensure compliance with all protocols.
- Supervise Control Room Officers and ensure 24/7 operational readiness.
- Ensure the integrity, security, and confidentiality of the Control Room environment and all operational records.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field from a recognised and accredited institution.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant work experience in fields such as aviation communications, command centre operations, radar operations, air traffic coordination, or security operations.
- Demonstrated practical experience in:
- Aerial traffic radio communication
- Satellite systems monitoring and interpretation
- Operating effectively under pressure, with strong decision-making and situational awareness
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and EarthRanger or similar operational platforms.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in English and appropriate radio telephony etiquette.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ability to handle confidential information.
- Physically and mentally fit to perform duties associated with a high-responsibility operational environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance and successfully undergo periodic integrity assessments, in line with organisational and national requirements.
