Zambia Sugar Plc. is subsidiary of Associated British Foods under the ABF Sugar Division and is the leading Sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products within Zambia and the regional African market.
The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position in the Corporate Affairs Department.
EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER x 1 – PERMANENT
CORPORATE AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT (NAKAMBALA)
This position reports to the Corporate Affairs Director.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop an integrated reputation management strategy for the Company.
• Develop and implement the external communications plan for the Company to help promote its corporate image.
• Continuously monitor, evaluate, and report on the effectiveness of communications initiatives to make appropriate improvements and recommendations.
• Manage and provide direction for communication via the website, social media, print media, and other communication platforms.
• Produce and disseminate communication materials, such as press kits, press releases, blog posts, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), and social media content.
• Manage all crisis communications in line with the Company Policy.
• Build brand presence of Zambia Sugar at events, conferences, and speaking engagements and ensure that this is communicated back into the organisation.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with journalists, media outlets, and other public commentators to secure positive coverage.
• Work closely with the Corporate Affairs Director and other external stakeholders on anything related to corporate communications and all media relations.
• Develop programmes that promote growth of advocates within the estate and outside ensuring that the Company leverages the over 16,000 residents at the estate.
• Publish the Annual Report in a timely manner and ensuring focus on ESG reporting standards.
• Promote initiatives that enhance the image of the Zambia Sugar brand focusing on external activities including Annual reporting, AGM hosting, Investors Briefing or Results Announcement meetings, Shareholder days, etc.
• Create and implement a shareholder engagement plan for the institutional investors aimed at promoting engagement throughout the year.
• Serve as an in-house external communications support to Executives in external, public relations opportunities (e.g., media interviews).
• Monitor and report stories in the media impacting the organization and industry.
• Promote and adhere to Zambia Sugar’s procedures, policies, and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).
• Execute any other work that may be assigned to you by your supervisor
Minimum Requirements
• Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Agricultural Economics, Economics, Business Administration, Commerce, or equivalent qualification.
• Preferably 5-7 years in a communications field with at least 5 years at management level.
• Knowledge in developing an organization-wide strategy for programme excellence.
• Possess strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge in evaluating communication effectiveness.
• Familiarity with communications strategies.
• Ability to run communications programmes in order to build formidable reputation of the brand in the country and beyond.
• Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
