POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and integrity-driven Accountant to manage our day-to-day financial operations, donor grant accounting, statutory compliance and financial reporting. The accountant will ensure robust internal controls and maintain financial transparency to support the implementation of our community programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Management & Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, bank reconciliations, and budget variance reports in accordance with organizational policies and donor standards.
- Grant & Donor Accounting: Track grant disbursements, manage project budgets, prepare donor financial reports, and ensure strict compliance with grant agreements.
- Statutory Compliance: Ensure timely calculation and remittance of statutory obligations (ZRA, PAYE, NAPSA, NHIMA,) and maintain compliance with Zambian financial regulations.
- Payroll & Petty Cash Management: Process monthly payroll, manage petty cash funds, and verify all payment requests and receipts.
- Internal Controls & Audit Preparation: Maintain sound internal financial control systems, safeguard assets, and lead preparations for internal and external financial audits.
- Budgeting Support: Assist management and project teams in formulating annual operational budgets and grant proposal budgets.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or equivalent (ZICA, ACCA, or CIMA Level 2/Licentiate).
- Professional Membership: Paid-up member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably within the NGO/CSO sector managing donor funds.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Dove Payroll System, Pastel) and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel skills).
- Knowledge: Sound understanding of Zambian tax laws, statutory requirements, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS/IPSAS).
