Family Legacy Missions Zambia (FLMZ) is a Christian, faith-based organisation committed to the redemptive development of vulnerable children in Zambia. Through a holistic model of care and development, Family Legacy seeks to empower God-given potential and enable children to thrive spiritually, intellectually, physically and emotionally.
Working in partnership with Family Legacy Missions International (FLMI), based in Dallas, Texas, USA, FLMZ delivers programmes and services in Zambia through its education, residential care, health and wellness, spiritual development, social-emotional support and other child-development interventions.
As Family Legacy continues to advance its strategic priorities and strengthen the sustainability, effectiveness and impact of its work in Zambia, FLMZ invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and mission-aligned candidates for the position of Country Director.
THE POSITION
The Country Director is the senior executive leader of Family Legacy Missions Zambia and is responsible for providing overall strategic, organisational and operational leadership to the ministry in Zambia.
Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer of Family Legacy Missions International, the Country Director will work closely and collaboratively with FLMI executive leadership in Dallas to ensure alignment between the Zambia operations and Family Legacy's overall mission, strategy, governance expectations and organisational priorities.
The successful candidate will lead the FLMZ Executive Leadership Team and provide oversight across programmes and corporate/support functions, ensuring that strategy is translated into clear priorities, effective execution, responsible stewardship and measurable impact.
The Country Director will be expected to build a strong and collaborative relationship between the Zambia and Dallas teams, maintaining appropriate local leadership and accountability while ensuring effective communication, transparency, consultation and alignment on matters of strategic and organisational significance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Country Director will:
- Provide Christ-centred executive leadership, modelling Family Legacy's Christian values and ensuring that the ministry's mission and Philosophy of Ministry remain central to organisational priorities, culture and decision-making.
- Lead the implementation of Family Legacy's strategic priorities in Zambia, translating organisational strategy into clear annual plans, budgets, performance measures and accountable execution.
- Work closely with the President/CEO and FLMI executive leadership in Dallas, providing timely and transparent reporting, contributing to organisation-wide strategic discussions and ensuring effective alignment between FLMZ and FLMI.
- Lead, coach and develop the FLMZ Executive Leadership Team, establishing clear expectations, strengthening accountability and fostering a healthy, collaborative and high-performing leadership culture.
- Provide executive oversight of FLMZ's programmes to ensure quality, integration, sustainability and measurable impact in the lives of the children and communities served.
- Champion and maintain the highest standards of child safeguarding, protection, occupational health and safety, and organisational wellbeing.
- Provide strong oversight of financial management and stewardship, including strategic budgeting, resource allocation, cost management, financial sustainability, internal controls and accountability for organisational resources.
- Ensure sound governance, legal and regulatory compliance, risk management and organisational accountability, working appropriately with FLMI leadership, Boards and relevant governance structures.
- Ensure that FLMZ has the appropriate organisational structures, leadership capacity, systems, policies and workforce required to deliver its mission effectively.
- Build a thriving organisational culture characterised by Christian service, integrity, unity, accountability, trust, continuous learning and high performance.
- Lead and support organisational change, strengthening systems and processes and ensuring that FLMZ remains responsive to changing programme, financial and operating realities.
- Ensure responsible stewardship, utilisation and protection of FLMZ's financial, physical, technological and human resources.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with Government ministries and regulatory authorities, donors, development partners, churches, communities and other key stakeholders.
- Represent Family Legacy credibly and effectively in Zambia and, where required, internationally, safeguarding and strengthening the reputation and interests of the ministry.
- Support resource mobilisation, partnership development and initiatives aimed at strengthening the long-term sustainability and impact of Family Legacy's work.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate should possess:
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Development Studies, Education, Finance, Public Administration, Social Sciences or another relevant discipline from a recognised institution.
- A relevant Master's degree is strongly preferred, particularly in Business Administration, Management, Leadership, Development Studies, Public Administration or a related discipline.
- Professional certification or formal training in Monitoring and Evaluation, Results-Based Management, Project/Programme Management, Strategic Leadership, Governance, Risk and Compliance, Organisational Development, Change Management, Child Safeguarding or Education Management will be an added advantage.
- Formal theological, biblical or pastoral training from a recognised Bible college, seminary or Christian ministry training institution will be a strong added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of ten (10) years' progressive leadership and management experience, with a significant portion at senior management or executive leadership level.
- Demonstrated experience leading a large, complex and/or multi-functional organisation, preferably within an NGO, faith-based organisation, development organisation, social-impact institution or comparable environment.
- Proven experience in strategic planning and execution, financial management and organisational stewardship, people leadership, governance, risk and compliance, and leading organisational change.
- Experience providing executive oversight of multi-disciplinary programmes and engaging credibly with technical specialists in areas such as education, Monitoring & Evaluation, child development, health, safeguarding and social programming.
- Demonstrated exposure to research, impact evaluation, data-informed decision-making and evidence-based programme design.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with Boards, Government, donors, partners and other senior stakeholders. Experience working across cultures, countries or geographically dispersed/international teams is highly desirable.
- A sound understanding of the Zambian operating, cultural and regulatory environment is highly desirable.

- The ability to manage conflict and difficult conversations constructively, maintaining healthy working relationships while protecting organisational standards and accountability.
- Strong organisational, planning and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage multiple strategic and operational demands.
- The ability to remain calm, resilient and solutions-oriented under pressure.
- A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to work successfully within a matrix/international organisational structure, including maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues based outside Zambia.
CHRISTIAN FAITH AND MISSION ALIGNMENT
- As a Christian ministry, Family Legacy considers alignment with its Christian faith, mission and values fundamental to this leadership position.
- The successful candidate will therefore be expected to demonstrate a mature Christian faith, a servant-leadership orientation and a genuine commitment to Family Legacy's mission of redemptively developing vulnerable children in the name of Jesus.
- Demonstrated experience in church, pastoral or Christian ministry leadership, including responsibility for spiritual leadership, discipleship, teaching, mentoring or the development of Christian leaders, will be highly desirable.
- Evidence of active involvement and good standing in a Bible-believing local church, supported by an appropriate pastoral or church leadership reference.
- Experience integrating Christian faith and biblical principles into organisational leadership, people management and decision-making will be highly desirable.
ELIGIBILITY TO WORK IN ZAMBIA
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Zambia.
Given the Zambia-based and highly relational nature of the role, preference will be given to suitably qualified candidates who are already resident or stationed in Zambia and who have a strong understanding of the local operating environment.
