In its continued efforts to provide leadership for a coordinated multisectoral response to HIV and AIDS, the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council (NAC) invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions based at the Secretariat in Lusaka:

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT (GRADE 5)

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the Assistant Accountant is responsible for ensuring the financial records are updated and sufficient documentation is maintained to support appropriate and regular financial reporting for the institution.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supports the Finance Manager and Financial Accountant in the preparation of budgets and financial reports
  • Provides effective and efficient financial services to the Finance Manager and Financial Accountant in order to facilitate achievement of the Finance Department’s objectives
  • Ensures timely and regular updating of the accounting system and maintain proper record of all accounting documents;
  • Receipting NAC cash and ensuring that all such cash is promptly banked
  • Ensures that all approved financial procedures and systems are followed in processing of all financial transactions
  • Facilitates and participates in maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures
  • Ensures all cash books are updated in a timely manner
  • Performs bank reconciliations promptly after the end of the month
  • Supports the Finance Manager and the Accountant coordinate statutory and other audits conducted on resources managed by the National HIV/AIDS/STI/TB Council
  • Performs any other official duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • Five (5) O Level Credits including English and Mathematics
  • Minimum Licentiate level qualification of a recognized accountancy qualification e.g. ZICA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, AAT
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in finance
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Information technology skills including the ability to operate and manage computerized financial systems
  • Well-developed accounting skills
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Demonstrate sound work ethics
  • Detail consciousness
  • Team orientation
  • Decisiveness and assertiveness
