Position Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Projects Lead is responsible for sourcing, planning, executing and evaluating projects according to predetermined timelines and budgets. Building and managing project teams, reporting to clients, and ensuring quality control throughout project life cycles are central to this position.

Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Responsibilities

  • Develop goals for the projects team, and for business growth, and ensure that the team meets these goals.
  • Research organizations and individuals to find new opportunities.
  • Attend conferences, meetings, and industry events.
  • Facilitate liaison with potential clients to establish rapport, and arrange meetings.
  • Manage project development from initiation to closure, drafting project proposals and leading project planning, budgeting, preliminary scheduling and monitoring processes.
  • Oversee all project activities and be the main contact point for project Sponsors, partners, stakeholders and project staff.
  • Ensure project activities comply with the policies and regulations of project Sponsors.
  • Identify, understand and manage all project risks, liabilities, obligations and rights.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to stakeholders and team members.
  • Oversee the planning, development and execution of project deliverables.
  • Supervise, monitor and follow-up on project activities.
  • Submit activity reports, meeting minutes and financial reports on a regular basis to management and project sponsors.
  • Manage changes to project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques.
  • Build client confidence and satisfaction to position the company to win extension business.
  • Use project scheduling and control tools to monitor project plans, work hours, budgets and expenditures.
  • Coordinate internal resources and ensure close collaboration and coordination with cooperating partners to guarantee smooth implementation of activities and achievement of results as specified in contracts or grant agreements.
  • Employ resourcefulness in project design, implementation and monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot project problems, and identify and implement creative solutions.
  • Train personnel and help team members develop their skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor/Master’s Degree in an appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience.
  • Problem-solving skills; detail-oriented with excellent documentation ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to write project/grant proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-organizationally.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team, supervise, ensure quality management, be result-driven, delegate and manage time.
  • Excellent client-facing and internal written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Proficient in the use of project management tools and the Microsoft Office suite of software, or equivalent.

Experience

  • At least 3 years of work experience in a project management/coordination function.
  • Demonstrated experience and solid expertise in proposal writing, project planning, management and reporting.
  • Familiarity with the entrepreneurship and technology ecosystems preferred.
