Job description:

Purpose of the role 

The superintendent will be responsible for the management of services related to clinical services, patient transportation, ambulance services and clinical asset management.

Key Responsibilities:

Site based medical services:

  • Supervise onsite contract with MBCC, or other appointed medical service provider at treatment facilities, with this position the key interface with the site based clinic managers.
  • Support monthly and annual key performance indicators as agreed with MBCC or the appointed medical service provider.
  • In conjunction with the appointed medical service provider develop and implement improvement plans that originate from internal processes, external audits or assessments or based on operational requirements or experience.
  • To support any complaints related to clinical services and address these with the appointed medical service provider.

Case management and referrals

  • Support medical evacuations both locally and internationally.
  • Responsible for keeping MEEPs updated and evaluating opportunities based on the evolving medical service industry in the sub-region.
  • Responsible for collecting updated medical status reports and sharing these with interested parties, respecting patient privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Management of the workflow process for emergent or cold case patient referrals and review of cases for confirmation of approval of cover.
  • Reviews all referrals from the medical service provider for offsite medical treatments /hospitalization to verifying extent of cover, relationship with provider and justification/ need for medical care. As required escalate any complex cases for additional approvals.
  • Support the collation and analysis of data on offsite referrals to determine any trends and opportunities to improve the referral or specialist consultation process.
  • Evaluate opportunities for innovation, including forms of telemedicine or teleconsulting to reduce the need for offsite referral.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with services and medical facilities available within the country and creating/maintaining relationships with service providers.
  • Case management of Injuries on Duty while they are in treatment facilities and coordination of referrals into occupational health.
  • Interface between site based ambulance service and ERT and the offsite ambulance service so resources are pooled and can be mutually supportive as required.
  • To support disaster planning and recovery planning including mass casualty scenarios as a core member of team.

Ambulance and vehicle service

  • Support fleet management in liaison with the site maintenance departments.
  • Evaluate vehicle tracking reports to ensure compliance with establishing driving standards.
  • Ensure fitness to drive for all drivers.
  • Ensure all ambulance staff are trained on first aid and basic life support.
  • Maintain and develop effective communication channels for the emergency services crews.
  • Rostering of staff.
  • Look for opportunities to increase operational efficiencies.
  • Triage of cases to determine the best mode of referral and what the team and equipment requirements may be- to be done in conjunction with the treating clinical team and receiving team.
  • Asset management and maintenance of equipment.
  • General supervision of the ambulance team.
  • Management and monitoring of the health vehicles movements
  • Support the management of the budgets for the ambulance service.
  • Support direct Health team as HR liaison for onsite Health issues.

Medical oxygen

  • Oversee and supervise the production and supply of medical oxygen to all facilities.
  • Manage the oxygen generating plant in line with manufacturer specification and procedures as well as national regulations.
  • Manage required plant maintenance.
  • Ensure staff are afforded up to training and support.
  • Support the storage, maintenance and other requirements of the oxygen delivery systems that were created for the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Ensuring effective, accurate and timely reporting and communication Represent FQM Health and Wellness in local and international industry events and conferences.
  • Other as required by the health and wellness manager.

Qualifications Required:

  • Qualified as an allied health care professional or nurse.
  • Other qualifications will be considered if there is demonstrated experience to fulfil the required scope.

Experience Required:

  • Demonstrated experience working in emergency medicine.
  • Experience in remote site setting ideally in mining or oil and gas.
  • Experience in working in private medical setting.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Minimum 10 years clinical experience.
  • Management of oxygen provision and administration.
