Website The Hunger Project Zambia

The Hunger Project (THP) is a Non-Governmental Organization.

The Hunger Project (THP) is a Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1977 with offices in twenty-two countries worldwide. THP works on ending chronic hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grass-root integrated women centered strategies and advocating for their wide spread adoption in countries throughout the world. Our vision is a world where every woman, man and child lead a health fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity

In Africa, THP has operations in nine countries where the epicenter strategy is being implemented. THP’s epicenter strategy mobilizes rural communities into “epicenters” which comprise 5,000 to 15,000 people who create a dynamic center where communities are mobilized for action to meet their own basic needs. This holistic strategy takes communities on a path to sustainable self-reliance through four distinct stages over a period of 5-8 years. THP currently works with this strategy in 89 epicenters in the 9 African countries, reaching a total of 1,341 villages with more than 1.2 million people. THP key thematic areas of the epicenter strategy include; food security and nutrition, land productivity and climate change resilience, water sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child heath, HIV /AIDS, enterprise development and youth empowerment, literacy and education, micro-finance and women empowerment.
