Purpose
Family Legacy (FL) is a faith-based organization that exists to glorify God by equipping children in Zambia to live out their God-given potential. Since 2000, Family Legacy Missions Zambia (FLMZ) has been transforming the lives of vulnerable and orphaned children through three core programs: Camp Life, the Tree of Life Children’s Village, and the Legacy Academies using for key pillars of our ministry – academic, emotional, spiritual and physical.
The overall responsibility of the Design and Technology Studies Teacher Assistant is to impart Carpentry and Joinery, Metal Fabrication and Electrical knowledge and skills into the learners. To effectively manage the day-to-day function and training within the Design and Technology Training Workshop. The Design and Technology Studies Teacher Assistant will plan for and provide the practical instruction under the supervision of and coordination with the Design and Technology Studies Teacher. S/He will ensure that all materials and equipment are ready for each day and that equipment and material inventories are kept managed. The Design and Technology Studies Teacher Assistant will promote interests of stakeholders who are the learners and caretakers.

Roles and Responsibilities
1. Student Management (25%)
- Oversee and manage students in the Design and Technology Training Workshop regarding task management.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with supervisor.
- Locally initiate mediation in conflict management among students
- Ensure proper adherence to the policies and goals of the organization for subordinates, such as the Education Policy.
- Advocate for and ensure the safety and protection of students when reporting child protection or other sensitive issues.
- Maintain a comprehensive assessment report on the performance of each Legacy Academy student in the Design and Technology Skills.
- Document learners’ cases of indiscipline in the workshop for reference and decision making.
2. Leadership (20%)
- Coordinate with individual teachers and staff as well as departments of Family Legacy to help provide for Design and Technology related projects for the students in the Trades Program.
- Work with Procurement to continually search for supplies for the Trades Program and to ensure that effort is made to find the best value for money on supplies and balance that with delivering a top-quality product and high-quality instruction.
- To stimulate and promote a culture of togetherness, cohesion, unity among the students in Design and Technology Training Workshop.
- Provide incentives for and encouragement to students through words of affirmations and more.
- Provide suggestions to the Design and Technology Studies teacher about appropriate solutions to problems that threaten smooth implementation of skills taught.
- Promptly forward students’ skill needs and concerns to the Design and Technology Studies teacher.
- Be a role model to all students in a holistic manner.
3. Skills Delivery (25%)
- Use schemes of work based on the appropriate curriculum and produce a work plan that promotes effective skill teaching and demonstration.
- Provide quality Design and Technology related skill services to students, staff, as well as other FL departments in a timely manner and at a competitive price to expand the trades education opportunities for the children at the Legacy Academy.
- Model academic students in the use of the English language in class and at the school campus for effective learning and communication.
- Promote the use of English language at Legacy Academy and learners within the school grounds and in the Design and Technology Training Workshop.
- Hold students accountable for failure to follow laid down school rules. This will be done using the Classroom Management Step Plan and Incident Report. This should be reflected in the teacher binder.
- Submit work plans weekly and schemes of work at the start of the term to the Head teacher.
4. Workshop Safety and Maintenance (20%)
- Oversee, guide and plan for the use and maintenance of all the equipment and materials in the Design and Technology Workshop for the benefit of the students’ educational needs and the benefit of Legacy Academy.
- Ensure that the Design and Technology Training Workshop is clean and safe to expected standards.
- Receive and create an inventory for all Design and Technology Training Workshop items/ supplies assigned to the assistant by the head teacher.
- Submit requests for supplies in a timely manner such that the inventory is maintained for optimal efficiency.
- Schedule maintenance of equipment and alert the Lead Design and Technology Teacher/Head Teacher/ Program Manager Trades of the need for unscheduled maintenance when need arises.
- Sensitize students on the prudent use of Workshop tools, resources and materials. Teach students to show gratitude to their sponsors.
- Ensure that the assigned workshop is locked at the end of each day school day and submit the keys. Keys should not be given to students.
- Ensure students are not left unsupervised in the Design and Technology Training Workshop.
- Continually evaluate the need for equipment maintenance and work with current venders to maintain the equipment and work with them to provide the best quality service at the best possible price.
5. Communication (5%)
- Follow the laid down channels of communication with the Head and all other staff.
- Promptly communicate using retrievable mode important information to the headteacher and the Design and Technology Studies teacher.
6. Exams (5%)
- Administer locally set skills tests.
- Provide credible and accurate information on the performance of the learners as requested by the Head teacher and Design and Technology Teacher.
- Administer and record School-Based Assessments for Grade 1 to 9
Qualifications
Education:
- Grade 12 certificate.
- TEVETA Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery; or a related field. (Having basic knowledge in Metal Fabrication and Electrical is an added advantage).
- Teaching Council of Zambia Certified.
- Must be computer literate
Experience:
Must have worked in a similar position for 2 years
