1. Introduction
Environment Africa Zambia (EAZ) invites expressions of interest (EOI) from qualified contractors to undertake the construction of 10 VIP/inclusive toilets in 10 project schools in Chibombo and Kabwe districts. The project aims to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and education for approximately 5,000 children, with a focus on girls and vulnerable children.
2. Project Context
Project schools in Chibombo and Kabwe face critical gaps in classrooms, water sanitation and hygiene facilities, teaching materials, and access to clean water. There is also a prevalence of harmful practices affecting girls, such as early marriages and initiation rituals. This project seeks to improve school infrastructure, water sanitation and hygiene facilities, and promote safe, inclusive, and gender-sensitive learning environments.
3. Scope of Work for Contractors
Interested contractors should be able to:
Construct 10 VIP/inclusive toilets, including gender-segregated units, and child-friendly designs.
Ensure compliance with national construction standards and WASH guidelines.
Engage school committees and Parent-Teacher Committees (PTCs) for labor support and guidance on toilet use and maintenance.
Provide supervision, progress updates, and completion documentation.
4. Location
Chibombo District: Project schools with high prevalence of harmful practices affecting adolescent girls
Kabwe District: Schools with limited access to clean water and water sanitation and hygiene facilities
5. Eligibility Criteria
Contractors must demonstrate:
· Proven experience in school WASH construction projects, including VIP toilets and boreholes
· Capacity to deliver on time and maintain quality standards
· Compliance with donor, national, and child safeguarding regulations
· References for similar projects
6. Submission Requirements
Contractors should submit:
· Company profile and registration documents
· List of previous WASH or school construction projects
· Proposed approach and methodology
· Draft budget/quotation
