African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization committed to the full rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks in partnership with governments and local communities. The organization currently manages 23 national parks and protected areas in 13 countries, covering more than 20 million hectares. These countries include Angola, Benin, the Central African Republic, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Position Background and Purpose
The Bus Driver role supports the Kafue National Park Education program by providing safe, reliable and timely transportation for learners, educators and program staff participating in environmental education activities. The role focuses on safe vehicle operation, adherence to road safety and child safeguarding policies and ensures the comfort, order, and well being of learners during transit to and from learning sites and field-based activities.
The position contributes to effective program delivery by enabling constant learner participation, supporting logistical coordination for outdoor and conservation learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensure the vehicle is maintained in good condition and always kept clean.
· Carry out routine inspections, checks, and minor interventions as required.
· Plan and select the most suitable and efficient travel routes.
· Remain available and maintain a high level of discretion regarding movements.
· Operate the vehicle only under a valid mission order when travelling outside the assigned administrative area.
· Conduct regular vehicle checks, including oil, fluids, cooling system, brake fluid, and battery levels.
· Keep the Head of Service, as the primary user of the vehicle, informed of routine maintenance needs (e.g., oil changes, worn parts).
· Record mileage for major trips, refueling, and all significant maintenance and repair work.
· Ensure regular monitoring of the vehicle when parked, particularly outside the station area and during maintenance or repair periods.
· Ensure the safety of the vehicle and passengers during travel and promptly inform the Head of Mission of any risks or dangerous conditions (fatigue, night driving, severe weather).
· Prepare and submit regular reports on the overall condition of the vehicle.
