Job Overview:
Liberty Life Insurance Zambia is seeking a Head Underwriter – Life to lead and manage the life underwriting function. This senior role involves strategic leadership, operational management, risk oversight, stakeholder engagement, and team development to ensure profitable and compliant underwriting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement underwriting strategies, advise management on portfolio performance, and support product development and digital transformation.
Operational Management: Oversee daily underwriting operations, ensure policy consistency, resolve complex cases, and maintain efficiency and accuracy.
Risk & Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards; monitor emerging risks and maintain transparency in decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with sales, actuarial, claims, reinsurance partners, and medical advisors; provide technical support and training to teams.
People Leadership: Lead and coach underwriting teams, set performance objectives, promote professional development, and foster an ethical, high-performance culture.
Reporting & Analytics: Analyze underwriting data, produce executive reports, and recommend improvements for profitability and portfolio quality.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Business, or related field.
- Professional insurance qualification (e.g., ACII) preferred.
- 5–10 years relevant experience in Life Underwriting.
