Assistant Collections & Recoveries Manager
(Payroll | Group Loans | Business Loans)
1. Role Overview
The Assistant Collections & Recoveries manager supports the effective management of collections and recovery activities across Payroll, Group, and Business loan portfolios. The role ensures timely repayments, reduction of Portfolio at Risk (PAR), full reconciliation of collections, and strict adherence to internal controls. The position is critical in driving collections discipline, strengthening recovery processes, and safeguarding company funds.
2. Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Collections Management:
- Monitor and drive daily, weekly, and monthly collections performance; ensure timely follow-up on overdue accounts and early intervention on delinquency.
- Product Oversight:
- Payroll Loans: Manage employer deductions, follow up on remittances, and resolve delays.
- Group Loans: Enforce joint liability, monitor group discipline, and support recovery of defaulting members.
- Business Loans: Assess repayment capacity, negotiate repayment plans, and escalate high-risk accounts.
- Recoveries & Arrears Control:
- Track delinquent accounts, manage PAR, and implement recovery strategies for non-performing loans.
- Reconciliation & Financial Control:
- Ensure daily reconciliation of collections against bank and mobile money statements; investigate and resolve all variances promptly.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Enforce adherence to policies; prevent unauthorized collection channels; identify and escalate fraud or non-remittance risks.
- Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare accurate collections and arrears reports; analyse trends and recommend corrective actions.
- Team Supervision:
- Support and guide Collections Officers; monitor performance and enforce accountability.
- Client Engagement:
- Conduct field visits, engage clients and stakeholders, and negotiate repayment solutions.
3. Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field
Experience
- 3–5 years in collections, recoveries, or credit operations
- Experience in payroll, group, or business lending
- 1–2 years in a supervisory role (advantage)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of credit risk, loan lifecycle, and PAR
- Financial reconciliation and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Excel and loan systems
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and policy enforcement ability
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
