Job Scope:
The Civil Engineer is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, technical supervision and quality assurance of construction projects. The scope covers both technical and managerial aspects of project execution.
Job Description
1. Oversee and manage daily construction activities, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards and project timelines.
2. Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, providing clear instructions to site teams for accurate execution.
3. Conduct surveying, levels marking and setting out to establish reference points, elevations and alignments.
4. Supervise site labor and contractors, offering technical guidance and resolving on-site challenges.
5. Monitor quality of materials and workmanship, enforcing adherence to building codes and safety regulations.
6. Coordinate with architects, engineers and surveyors to align site activities with overall project objectives.
7. Prepare and maintain site records, including daily progress reports, material usage and labor deployment.
8. Assist in preparing BOQs, cost estimates and verifying quantities during construction.
9. Conduct inspections and quality checks on foundations, concrete, steel and other structural elements.
10. Ensure site cleanliness, orderliness, and compliance with environmental regulations.
11. Provide technical support during material testing (soil, concrete, blocks, asphalt, steel).
12. Report project progress, challenges and resource requirements to management regularly.
13. Review and study designs, ensuring construction is executed in line with approved drawings.
14. Provide technical input on structural design, land compaction, block testing and related engineering aspects.
15. Assess the strength and suitability of foundations and construction materials through testing.
16. Plan projects using analysis of drawings, blueprints, survey reports, maps and geotechnical/topographical data.
17. Estimate materials, equipment and labor requirements to determine accurate project costs.
18. Track project milestones and submit regular progress reports to management.
19. Inspect completed structures and recommend repairs or maintenance as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support project success.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- All academic qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
- Must be a registered and fully paid-up member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ)
- Must possess a valid practicing license
- Minimum of 5 – 7 years of relevant work experience in construction projects

5. Skilled in identifying, analyzing and solving complex engineering problems.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting.
7. Ability to combine creativity with analytical thinking in project execution.
8. Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
9. Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
