About Zengamina Power Limited (ZPL)
Zengamina Power Limited (ZPL), part of the Anzana Electric Group, is a vertically integrated private rural electric utility operating in Ikelenge District, North-Western Province of Zambia. Since 2007, ZPL has operated as a mini-grid providing reliable electricity to households, government institutions and businesses through a network powered by a 700kW run-of-river hydropower plant and approximately 70 km of 33 kV sub-transmission lines and 87 km of medium-voltage distribution lines. ZPL is currently at an advanced stage of expanding its generation capacity through the integration of an additional hydropower unit, comprising a second turbine of approximately 700 kW, alongside the development of a solar PV plant with an installed capacity of 1.2 MWac. This hybrid configuration will increase the total installed capacity of the facility to approximately 2.6 MW, aimed at meeting the growing electricity demand within Ikelenge District. The improvements will also include the extension of the power distribution facilities within the minigrid to increase the number of customers from approximately 2500 to 5000 customers in a few years
The facility was recently interconnected to the ZESCO grid, enabling dual-mode operation. ZPL will continue to operate as a mini-grid serving local demand, while surplus generation will be exported to the national grid in accordance with the grid interconnection and power offtake arrangements.
ZPL’s objective is therefore to electrify the entire Ikelenge District and strengthen integration with the national grid. To achieve this noble objective ZPL is keen to strengthen its team by adding an Engineering Manager who will oversee the operations and maintenance of the generation and distribution assets to ensure high availability , improved customer service and stakeholder relationship .
About the Role
ZPL has led the rural electrification model in Zambia since it started operations In Ikelenge in 2007 and has entered a significant phase of expansion of its generation and distribution infrastructure, with goals to increase the customers connections from current 2500 to 5000 in the next few years.
Reporting to the General Manager, the Engineering Manager will oversee technical operations across generation, substations and distribution networks while supporting system planning, grid expansion projects and interconnection operations with the national grid. The role requires strong operational leadership combined with practical engineering expertise suitable for a growing rural utility.

Duties and Responsibilities
As Engineering Manager, you will be expected to drive a Health and Safety culture as you carry out the following duties and responsibilities.
- To coordinate operations on the network in a safer and timely manner, ensuring reliable power supply to customers and meet set company KPIs in terms of quality of power supply.
- Ensure timely resolution of customer complaints technical and commercial.
- To carry out timely maintenance of generation, distribution and supply systems infrastructure in accordance with operations manuals, company policy and industry best practice.
- Review all distribution network expansion planning plans to ensure system optimization, load growth forecasting, and carry out timely system reinforcements and support the ambitious new connections goals.
- Coordinate critical materials forecast, maintain spares /materials inventories and plan procurement to ensure smooth operations, maintenance execution and projects implementation.
- Ensure adherence to weekly, monthly and annual maintenance plans and documentation of all maintenance activities according to company policies
- Manage prudent utilization critical resources such as materials, fuels and mobile equipment.
- Manage a live, accurate assets register for the company to ensure compliance with insurance and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure operational costs of the company are maintained within budgets to ensure financial discipline and achieve profitability.
- Prepare annual budgets for all technical teams under your responsibility.
- Provide technical support to various projects under implementation where necessary.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders in the district to represent the interest of the company fairly and timely to satisfaction of both ZPL and customers.
- Ensure all customers are timely metered, and distribution losses are kept within approved KPI targets.
- Ensure timely production of all reports and timely distribution to key stakeholders.
- Ensure total compliance to company procedures and processes by staff under your supervision.
- Ensure compliance of all technical KPIs for the company.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure compliance of all sector regulatory requirements.
- Ensure Zero Accidents to employees, equipment and or customers equipment as a result of company operations in delivering services to customers.
- Carry out any other duties legally assigned to you by your supervisors.
- Lead technical coordination for potential interconnection with the national grid, including protection coordination, system synchronization, import/export metering, and compliance with grid codes and utility operating requirements
- Conduct or supervise system planning studies including load forecasting, distribution network reinforcement planning, and substation capacity assessments to support sustainable grid expansion.
- Ensure proper design, coordination and maintenance of system protection schemes for generation, substations, and distribution networks.
- Develop and enforce engineering standards, operational procedures and maintenance protocols to ensure safe and reliable utility operations.
- Lead the network construction teams, plant operations and maintenance teams and provide technical guidance including the establishment or improvement of standard operations procedures for both operations and distribution line construction/maintenance
Qualifications and Essential Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in an Electrical Engineering specialized in Power Systems or Electrical Machines.
- Registered with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and in good standing order with the professional body.
- Demonstrated knowledge of power generation, distribution systems (including planning), protection coordination and renewable energy integration.
- Membership and/or affiliation to other Engineering professional bodies will be added advantage.

Experience in operations and maintenance of projects or plants financed by Development Finance Institutions will be an added advantage

Contract Type and Duration
- Two (02) year fixed-term contract, renewable
- Expected on-site start: ASAP, within two months.
