Purpose of the Role
The Geologist / Grade Control Officer is responsible for identifying, monitoring and controlling ore quality at Kamiyobo Mine. The role ensures that mining follows the orebody correctly, that ore and waste are separated, and that samples and lab results are properly recorded for commercial and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Geological Control
- Inspect exposed ore zones and advise the Site Supervisor on mining direction.
- Identify ore, waste and mineralised zones.
- Mark ore/waste boundaries clearly for operators.
- Monitor the exposed vein or mineralised structure during mining.
- Advise management where mining should continue, stop or be redirected.
- Ensure selective mining is followed where required.
Grade Control and Sampling
- Prepare and manage the site sampling procedure.
- Take or supervise representative ore samples.
- Label samples correctly.
- Maintain a proper sample register.
- Ensure samples are sent to approved laboratories where required.
- Receive and file lab results.
- Compare lab results with visual observations and production records.
- Assist management with grade estimation and stockpile classification.
Stockpile Management
- Classify stockpiles by material type and expected grade.
- Ensure high-grade ore, low-grade ore, waste and dumps are kept separate.
- Mark stockpile areas clearly.
- Monitor blending, loading and dispatch of ore.
- Prevent contamination or mixing of ore with waste.
Reporting and Technical Support
- Prepare simple geological notes and site updates.
- Maintain maps, sketches or GPS records of active mining areas.
- Report any geological changes, faults, dilution risks or poor-grade areas.
- Assist the Mining Engineer with planning and pit development.
- Support buyer, processor or investor site visits where technical explanation is required.
Minimum Requirements
- Geological qualification or practical mining geology experience.
- Understanding of ore identification and sampling.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Ability to work closely with operators and site supervisors.
- Basic understanding of copper mineralisation will be an advantage.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience in copper or base metal mining.
- Experience with grade control, stockpile control and sample management.
- Ability to use GPS, basic mapping tools or mine plans.
- Experience dealing with labs, buyers or processors.
