Job Purpose:
To assist the Electrical Supervisor by leading and supervising a team of electricians in the execution of electrical installations, maintenance, and commissioning activities on a remote project site. The Electrical Lead Supervisor ensures all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with South African (SANS), Zambian (ZABS), and international standards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Qualifications & Certifications:
South African Red Seal (Trade Tested Electrician) – Section 13 or Section 26D
Recognised by NBCEI and National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB)
- Experience:
Minimum 5–7 years’ post-trade experience in industrial or mining electrical environments
At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory, lead supervisor, or foreman role
Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of LV and MV installations, fault-finding, commissioning, and quality control
Familiarity with SANS 10142-1, ZABS ZS 374, and IEC electrical standards
Experience on cross-border or expatriate projects is an advantage
Key Responsibilities:
Work Coordination & Supervision:
Lead and supervise electricians and assistants, allocating daily tasks and ensuring work meets project scope and standards
Support the Electrical Supervisor in managing site logistics, progress tracking, and material control
Technical Execution:
Lead hands-on electrical work as required, including distribution board (DB) installations, motor connections, cable routing, and terminations
Troubleshoot electrical faults safely using diagnostic tools and methods
Interpret and execute electrical drawings, schematics, and layout plans
Quality & Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and PPE compliance
Monitor and ensure compliance with SANS, ZABS, NBCEI, and project-specific quality standards
Complete, review, and verify job cards, checklists, inspection reports, and other documentation
Team Leadership:
Mentor, coach, and develop junior electricians and local assistants
Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and promote a proactive safety culture
Report unsafe conditions, quality concerns, and progress updates promptly to the Electrical Supervisor
Skills & Competencies:
Strong practical and theoretical electrical knowledge with solid understanding of SANS, OHS Act (RSA), and Zambian safety legislation
Proven leadership, planning, and organizational skills
High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards
Ability to work effectively within a multicultural and remote site environment
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Working Conditions:
Site-based role under remote mining project conditions including heat, dust, confined spaces, and working at heights
Full compliance with company PPE, health, and safety policies mandatory
May require overtime or shift work during peak commissioning or construction phases
