Purpose of the Role
The Electrical Superintendent provides overall leadership, strategic planning, and technical oversight for all electrical works on the Lumwana Expansion Project. This senior role ensures that all LV and MV installations, maintenance, and commissioning activities are executed to the highest safety, quality, and compliance standards in line with South African (NBCEI), Zambian (EIZ), and international (IEC) regulations. The Superintendent will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage high-value resources, and drive project delivery to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.

- Qualifications & Certifications
South African Red Seal Trade Certificate – Electrical (Section 13 or 26D).
NBCEI compliance and registration.
Eligible for registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
Valid passport and eligibility for Zambian Class A Work Permit and Temporary Employment Permit (TEP).
- Experience
7–10 years’ post-trade experience in heavy industrial, mining, or large-scale commercial electrical projects.
Minimum 3 years in a superintendent or senior supervisory capacity on large, complex sites.
Proven expertise in LV/MV installations, commissioning, diagnostics, and compliance verification.
Strong working knowledge of SANS 10142-1, ZABS ZS 374, and applicable IEC standards.
Prior experience on African or international expatriate projects advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
Lead, direct, and develop multi-skilled electrical teams to achieve project goals.
Allocate resources efficiently, monitor productivity, and drive high-performance outcomes.
Champion a proactive safety culture through daily briefings, toolbox talks, and visible leadership.
Technical Authority & Quality Assurance
Approve and oversee all electrical installations, repairs, and commissioning activities.
Validate and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and layouts for execution.
Conduct audits, quality inspections, and final acceptance sign-offs in compliance with SANS, ZABS, and IEC requirements.
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
Ensure strict adherence to NBCEI, the South African OHS Act, Zambia’s Factories Act, and all statutory and project-specific regulations.
Maintain readiness for audits, liaising with regulatory authorities (EIZ, ZESCO, etc.) as required.
Control documentation including job cards, inspection reports, test records, and quality checklists.
Cross-Discipline Coordination & Reporting
Interface with mechanical, instrumentation, and civil disciplines to integrate electrical works into the overall project plan.
Resolve technical and scheduling conflicts to protect critical path activities.
Provide detailed daily and weekly progress reports to site leadership, highlighting risks, opportunities, and required interventions.
Skills & Competencies
Mastery of LV/MV electrical systems, commissioning processes, and safety-critical installations.
Strong leadership presence with the ability to direct large, diverse, and multicultural teams.
Skilled in conflict resolution, decision-making under pressure, and resource optimisation.
Deep understanding of South African and Zambian regulatory frameworks.
Competence in MS Office Suite, reporting platforms, and diagnostic/testing tools.
Working Conditions
Site-based role in a remote mining project environment.
May require working at heights, in confined spaces, or extended hours to meet deadlines.
Strict compliance with PPE and safety standards at all times.
