Family Legacy Missions Zambia (FLMZ) is a Faith based organization that upholds Christian values and morals in the education of the orphaned and vulnerable children it serves. Role Purpose
The Accountant is responsible for a broad range of accounting activities that support accurate, timely, and compliant financial management. The role maintains the general ledger, prepares financial reports, supports budgeting and reconciliations, and upholds the integrity of financial data. The Accountant works closely with the Finance Manager to ensure strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and efficient processes across the Finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- General Ledger & Close: Post and review journals; perform account reconciliations; manage month-end and year-end close; investigate and resolve anomalies promptly.
- Budgeting & Analysis: Assist with annual budgeting, periodic reforecasts, and variance analysis of programs expenditures.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Sub-grant Reporting: Compile accurate financial reports for Family Legacy Missions Zambia (FLMZ) sub-grants, ensuring donor compliance.
- Reconciliations: Perform monthly petty cash, bank, and employee advance reconciliations, resolving differences in a timely manner.
- Intercompany & Allocations: Track and record intercompany sales and perform reconciliations; allocate costs and payments to the correct program, fund, and GL codes.
- Audit Support: Prepare schedules and provide documentation for internal and external audits; implement post-audit recommendations.
- Compliance: Support adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and statutory requirements. Assist with statutory submissions and payments and with ZRA VAT exemption claims and processes.
- Systems & Process Improvement: Contribute to the implementation and optimization of financial systems and procedures; recommend and execute efficiency and accuracy improvements.
- Collaboration: Partner with program teams to strengthen financial understanding, ensure accurate coding, and improve budget execution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CA, or CIMA).
- Minimum 3 years’ relevant accounting experience, preferably within a non-profit environment.
- Proficiency with accounting software (experience with Sage Intacct is an advantage) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Solid understanding of GAAP/IFRS principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
