JOB ADVERT – UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN
Cavendish University Zambia is seeking a University Librarian who will be responsible for the acquisition, organization, management, and distribution of library resources, ensuring that the library services adequately meet the needs of all users.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
a) Initiate and develop the Strategic and Operational plans of the department.
b) Initiate and generate annual budget for the department that should be included in the University wide budget.
c) Initiate quality assurance guidelines and practices and make recommendations to Management and University Council as required.
d) Lead the development and oversee the implementation of University-wide Quality Assurance programmes
e) Oversee and coordinate course development focusing on curriculum development, pedagogy and instruction
f) Oversee course management initiatives undertaken by the University revolving around the planning of learning activities, course organisation, invigilation, grading and the posting of grades
g) Spearhead the assessment of course content delivery strategies
h) Coordinate tutoring support services at all faculties
i) Provide advisory services to members of senior management and support non-teaching activities
j) Initiate and develop the Human Resource Plan for the department and manage the performance and development of the department staff
k) Solicit for financial resources from Donors and other Funding agencies for Quality Assurance activities
l) Coordinate the process of accreditation of Academic Programmes of the University by Higher Education Authority (HEA) and other accreditations/professional bodies
m) Coordinate students evaluation of teaching quality and standards and disseminate the findings to academic staff, management and other stakeholders
n) Develop performance indicators appropriate to quality assurance and improvement of internal quality assurance process for the development of guidelines for periodic reviews of existing programmes
o) Design quality standards and practices in the delivery of services at the University
p) Keep updated with output from Higher Education Authority (HEA) and other relevant professional bodies and make appropriate recommendations for implementation to ensure compliance with the relevant requirements
q) Perform any other duties commensurate with the position as assigned from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
i. Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University
ii. Master of Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University
iii. PhD (or PhD Candidate) in Library and Information Sciences or equivalent from an accredited University an added advantage
iv. Minimum three (3) years’ senior-level work experience in a University Library
v. Strong knowledge of library management systems, digital resources, and emerging technologies
vi. Familiarity with cataloguing and classification standards
vii. Demonstrated leadership abilities and the ability to motivate and guide a team
viii. Member of the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) or Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals
