Fish Health Management Systems
- To develop systems to diagnose diseases in fish in the hatchery, nursery and grow-out sections of the farm.
- Diagnostic sampling, biosecurity assessment, basic field epidemiology and providing strategic advice to management
- Frequent provision of training courses to Yalelo personnel
- Project-based work, including retrospective review of disease or performance issues on farms, or involvement in clinical trials
- Trains department personnel in sampling collection and preservation, necropsy techniques and fish diseases
- Performs necropsies and laboratory testing as requested by other sections such as processing, hatchery and lake operations.
- Collects biological samples during fish management events and participates in the development of protocols for the detection, control, and eradication of fish diseases.
- Produce pathology reports and updates for management
- Maintains the Department Fish Health databases and attends and delivers presentations that address fish disease management.
Projects/Trials
- Assists with coordinating, data capture and any lab-related function required to run production trials in the hatchery or the lake
- Helps co-ordinate lab team to perform any other short trials required within production
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biological Sciences or Aquaculture and Fisheries
- Grade Twelve (12) Certificate
- Certificate in Laboratory practice/technology is a plus
Experience
- 2-4 years of in laboratory analysis of water quality and or fish health
- Experience in fish disease diagnosis and management
- Sufficient hands-on experience in fish husbandry
