Breath of Heaven Children’s Ministries is a faith-based child care and development organization. We provide residential care, education, skills training, and health services to vulnerable orphaned and abandoned children in Zambia.
Job overview
The House Mother plays a vital role in providing a safe, nurturing, and structured home environment for children under her care. She is responsible for their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, ensuring their daily needs are met while promoting positive values, discipline, and personal development.
Reports To: BOHCV Homelife Coordinator
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a loving, stable, and supportive environment for children.
- Ensure children follow a structured daily routine, including school, chores and recreational activities.
- Monitor and guide children’s behaviour, offering mentorship and discipline in a constructive manner.
- Foster a family-like atmosphere, encouraging respect, responsibility, and teamwork.
- Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
- Serve as a mother figure, offering emotional support and encouragement.
- Address children's concerns, fears, or emotional struggles with patience and care in
- conjunction with the Children’s Services Coordinator.
- Participate in recreational and developmental activities with the children.
- Ensure children attend school and receive necessary educational support.
- Monitor and facilitate medical check-ups, vaccinations, and overall health care.
- Report unpleasant behaviour in writing using the BOHCV reporting forms.
- Communicate with staff, teachers, counsellors, and guardians when necessary.
- Attend training sessions as required.

Roles/ Requirements
- Grade 12 school certificate or better
- Must be between 35 to 45 years old
- Must have minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Child and Youth Care Practice (CYCP)
- A Police Clearance Certificate
- Basic cooking, housekeeping, and organizational skills.
- Must be a Christian
- Prior experience in caregiving, social work, education, or a related field is an added advantage.
