Our client, an energy and infrastructure development company operating in Zambia is seeking talented professionals to join their high-performing team developing a large‑scale power generation project in Southern Province.
Role Overview
The Civil & Construction Supervisor will be responsible for the day‑to‑day supervision and control of civil construction works on site, ensuring that all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements. The role requires strong on‑site leadership, effective coordination with engineers and contractors, and continuous monitoring of quality, safety, productivity, and compliance. This is a hands‑on supervisory position, suitable for individuals who are comfortable working in remote locations and managing multiple work fronts simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Take direct responsibility for daily civil construction operations across assigned work areas
- Organise, supervise, and coordinate site labour, artisans, equipment operators, and subcontractor teams
- Allocate work activities, set daily targets, and monitor productivity against approved construction programmes
- Supervise civil works including site preparation, earthworks, excavation, backfilling, compaction, and grading
- Oversee construction of foundations, substructures, and civil works for major plant equipment and buildings
- Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, technical specifications, and applicable Chinese, Zambian, and international standards (e.g. IS Codes, GB, BS), as well as environmental permits and safety regulations
- Enforce strict health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements, including PPE usage, permit‑to‑work systems, and hazard identification, with the objective of achieving zero lost‑time incidents
- Coordinate closely with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams to ensure correct placement of anchor bolts, embedded items, and civil interfaces
- Assist with inspections and preparation of works for consultants, clients, and regulatory authorities
- Maintain accurate daily site records including manpower, equipment usage, work progress, and site activities
- Support measurement of completed works, quantity tracking, and preparation of site documentation
- Ensure work areas are kept clean, orderly, safe, and environmentally compliant
- Support preparation of completed works for testing, commissioning, handover, and final completion
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum of 8–10 years’ practical experience supervising civil construction works on large infrastructure or industrial projects
- Prior experience on thermal power plants, coal‑fired power projects, mining operations, cement plants, or similar heavy industrial facilities
- Familiarity with power plant civil layouts and requirements, including foundations for rotary equipment, high‑load structures, ash ponds, and related infrastructure
- Sound knowledge of construction sequencing in power projects to minimise interface delays between civil, mechanical, and electrical works
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage site teams and subcontractors
Required Skills and Attributes
- Strong on‑site leadership and workforce management skills
- Practical knowledge of concrete technology, reinforcement detailing, formwork systems, and heavy foundations
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply civil and structural drawings, specifications, and BOQs
- Good communication and coordination skills for effective interaction with engineers, contractors, and site teams
- Computer literacy, including MS Office applications; basic AutoCAD knowledge is an advantage
- Formal safety or HSE training or certification
- Exposure to projects involving multinational contractors or consultants
- Familiarity with quality control procedures, inspections, and documentation requirements
