ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT

Simply Accounts Ltd is a UK-based accounting and business advisory firm with a support office in Livingstone, Zambia. We provide bookkeeping, statutory accounts, tax compliance, and advisory services to small and medium-sized businesses, operating to UK professional standards.
Role Overview
We are recruiting an Assistant Accountant to support our UK team by delivering accurate bookkeeping and assisting with management and year-end accounts preparation. Training will be provided on UK systems and processes where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain bookkeeping records for UK clients
- Process invoices, expenses, and bank transactions
- Perform bank reconciliations and maintain VAT and payroll control accounts
- Prepare journals (accruals, prepayments, depreciation)
- Assist with management accounts and year-end statutory accounts
- Prepare working papers and supporting schedules
- Support VAT returns and basic corporation tax workings
- Process weekly and monthly payroll
- Maintain accurate client files and meet agreed deadlines
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ accounting or bookkeeping experience
- Experience in an accounting practice or professional environment
- Strong double-entry bookkeeping knowledge
- Experience with Xero, QuickBooks, or similar software
- Good Excel skills
- High attention to detail and strong communication skills
Desirable:
- Accounting/Finance qualification (or studying AAT, ZICA, ACCA)
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
