Consultant – Accounting Services (Microfinance)
Location: Lusaka, Zambia
Engagement Type: Short-Term Consultancy
A growing Microfinance Institution in Zambia dedicated to promoting financial inclusion and supporting small and medium enterprises is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Accounting Services Consultant. The successful consultant will provide technical support in establishing and managing an efficient accounting system and ensuring accurate financial reporting using QuickBooks Accounting Software.
Key Responsibilities
The Consultant will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Setting up, reviewing, and optimizing the QuickBooks accounting system for microfinance operations.
- Providing professional accounting services including bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial record management.
- Preparing monthly management accounts, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
- Establishing and strengthening internal accounting controls and procedures appropriate for microfinance operations.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable Zambian tax laws, financial regulations, and accounting standards.
- Supporting loan portfolio accounting, including provisioning and reporting.
- Providing technical guidance and, where necessary, training staff on the use of QuickBooks and basic accounting procedures.
- Supporting management with financial reports and analysis required for operational and strategic decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as ZICA, ACCA, or CIMA will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ relevant professional experience, preferably within microfinance, banking, or financial services.
- Demonstrated experience in using QuickBooks Accounting Software.
- Strong knowledge of Zambian tax regulations and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience in loan portfolio accounting or microfinance financial management will be an added advantage.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with high levels of integrity and professionalism.
