Main Purpose of the Job
To assist the Head of Internal Audit in overseeing and managing the Internal Audit function, providing independent assurance to the Board of Directors and senior management on the design and operating effectiveness of controls, and supporting the implementation and execution of the enterprise's core business processes. The Deputy Head of Internal Audit plays a key leadership role in executing the audit plan, managing audit teams, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality audit outcomes.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
• Assist the Head of Internal Audit in developing the annual audit plan and ensure its timely execution, making recommendations on risk-based audit priorities and resource allocation.
• Lead and supervise audit engagements across various business units, ensuring that audit procedures are conducted in accordance with the Internal Audit Plan and applicable auditing standards.
• Coordinate and manage the day-to-day activities of the internal audit team including Internal Auditors, providing guidance, supervision and review of their work.
• Prepare and review audit reports, ensuring findings are clearly articulated, well-supported by evidence, and that recommendations are practical and actionable.
• Provide regular updates and progress reports to the Head of Internal Audit on the status of ongoing audit engagements, findings, and management action plan implementation.
• Assist in presenting audit reports and updates to senior management and the Board Audit and Risk Committee (ARC) as required.
• Monitor and track the implementation of audit recommendations and management action plans (MAPs), escalating overdue or inadequately addressed items to the Head of Internal Audit.
• Support the evaluation and review of the Internal Control System to ensure it is functioning as planned, and recommend modifications as required to adapt to changes in operating conditions.
• Conduct and oversee audits of financial statements to detect irregularities, misstatements, and illegal acts in the conduct of the institution's business.
• Assist in the preparation and execution of external audits and regulatory examinations conducted by government agencies, due diligence teams, and other stakeholders, and support the implementation of their recommendations.
• Support compliance monitoring activities to ensure adherence to the established risk management framework, policies, procedures, internal controls, and statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in and lead special investigations, ad-hoc reviews, and unannounced visits for suspected cases of fraud and other irregularities as directed.
• Provide guidance to management and staff on internal controls, fraud prevention, financial management, and reporting.
• Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal audit methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Support talent development within the Internal Audit Department through mentoring, coaching, and facilitating training for audit staff.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Internal Audit or the Board Audit and Risk Committee.

• Knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory, and compliance requirements in the financial services sector
Experience and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Auditing, Financial Management, or a related business field.
• Full membership of ACCA, ZICA, IIA or equivalent professional body.
• A minimum of 5 years' working experience in an auditing firm or internal audit function in the Financial Services Sector, of which at least 3 years must be at a supervisory or senior audit level.
• Thorough understanding of the principles and application of good corporate governance, business and operational risk, and control processes and procedures.
