Typical duties
Plan and deliver daily learning activities and routines.
Use play, songs, stories, games, and hands-on activities to teach basic skills.
Observe children’s progress and behavior, then adjust activities to suit their needs.
Support children’s social, emotional, physical, and language development.
Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming classroom.
Communicate with parents or guardians about children’s progress and concerns.
Work with other teachers, school leaders, and sometimes specialists to support each child’s learning .
Key qualities
A good early childhood teacher should be patient, caring, creative, and able to communicate well with children and adults. Strong observation skills, organization, and the ability to manage a classroom gently but effectively are also important.
