Thorntree River Lodge, a safari destination nestled on the river banks of mighty Zambezi river in the Mosi-Oa Tunya National Park, is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to come on board and join our dynamic team in the capacity of Trainee Host. This is an exceptional opportunity to work in one of Africa’s most pristine and remote wilderness areas, delivering unforgettable experiences to our local international guests.
Position : Trainee Host
Reporting to : Lead Host
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure all meals are setup in accordance with lodge standard style guides before the guests arrive to the table.
- Welcome guests on their arrival to the lodge and from activities.
- Ensure the service of the guests follows the service guides set out
- Entertain guests in accordance to Lodge standards without neglecting a guest but without being overbearing.
- Ensure guests have everything they require before leaving for morning activity; water, sunscreen, cameras and see the guests off.
- Prepare welcome packs and notes for arriving guests.
- Collect guest evaluation forms and communicate with manger on points raised by the guest positive and negative and where necessary report to the sales manager.
- Update information boards at back of house with arrival, departure, dietary requirements, flight details, who is sitting for which meals etc.
- Check in new guests as per check in as per lodge checklist and give them the lodge orientation as per the lodge checklist
- Host afternoon high tea.
- Complete front of house checklist.
- Ensure you are presentable at all times.
- Ensure service of all meals are being conducted in accordance with the service style guide.
- Confirm the guests' wake-up calls and departure times for the following day.
- Ensure our safety protocol is being observed at all times.
Requirements:
- Full grade 12 certificate
- Diploma in Hospitality Studies
- Minimum of 2-3 years relevant work experience (preferably in Safari)
- Strong communication skills
- Computing skills with working knowledge of various office applications, including Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a professional attitude.
