We are seeking a motivated and results-driven Purchaser to source and procure battery scrap from suppliers across Zambia. The successful candidate will be responsible for visiting scrap markets, identifying and developing supplier relationships, negotiating purchase agreements, and ensuring a reliable supply of battery scrap at competitive prices. This role requires frequent travel, strong negotiation skills, and a good understanding of the local scrap and recycling industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Visit scrap markets, recycling centers, and suppliers throughout Zambia to identify purchasing opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential battery scrap suppliers.
- Negotiate prices, quantities, payment terms, and delivery schedules to secure favorable purchase agreements.
- Assess the quality and quantity of battery scrap before purchase.
- Monitor market prices and industry trends to support competitive procurement decisions.
- Source new suppliers and expand the company's procurement network.
- Coordinate with logistics and warehouse teams to ensure timely collection and delivery of purchased materials.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier information, and transaction documentation.
- Prepare regular procurement and market activity reports for management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, environmental regulations, and safety requirements related to battery scrap handling.
- Resolve supplier issues and disputes professionally and efficiently.
- Meet procurement targets and contribute to the company's supply objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Purchasing & Supply, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, scrap trading, recycling, or a related commercial role.
- Experience working with scrap metal, battery scrap, or recyclable materials is an advantage.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively across Zambia.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-management skills.
- Good understanding of procurement processes and market analysis.
- Ability to work independently and achieve procurement targets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
