Chengelo School is a Christian, International, boarding school with a vision to provide the best quality education to produce future generations of leaders for Zambia and beyond. Located in a beautiful setting in rural Zambia, the school comprises both Primary and Secondary sections as well as an Outdoor Education Centre.

POSITION AVAILABLE: Head of Department (Academic) – Primary School
The Head of Department (Academic) will provide strategic leadership for teaching, learning and curriculum within the Primary School. Working closely with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will ensure high standards of academic achievement, curriculum implementation, assessment, staff development and pupil progress while modelling excellent classroom practice through a reduced teaching timetable.
The post holder will make the education of pupils their first concern and will be accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct. They will act with honesty and integrity, demonstrate excellent curriculum knowledge, provide effective leadership to colleagues, and work collaboratively with parents in the best interests of every child.
PERSON PROFILE:
- Upholds strong Christian values and is committed to the vision and mission of Chengelo School.
- Holds a recognised teaching qualification together with a relevant Bachelor's Degree
- Holds, or is eligible to obtain, registration with the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ).
- Has a minimum of five years' successful teaching experience, preferably within the Cambridge Primary Curriculum or a comparable international curriculum.
- Has proven experience in curriculum leadership, middle leadership or academic management within a school.
- Demonstrates excellent knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment, data analysis and school improvement.
- Has experience supporting, mentoring and developing teachers through coaching and professional development.
- Possesses excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, initiative and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Is passionate about improving teaching and learning and raising pupil achievement.
- Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Will actively contribute to the spiritual life and wider community of Chengelo School.
REMUNERATION:
Staff who work at Chengelo do so out of a sense of calling and are paid at good local Zambian rates. The school provides accommodation on site; discounted school fees; main meals during term time; local medical cover; transport home every two years; and a gratuity payment at the end of the contract.
