A Health and Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment. The officer identifies workplace hazards, ensures compliance with health and safety laws, and supports employees in following safe work practices.
### Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and risk assessments.
- Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety laws and regulations.
- Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Prepare incident reports and recommend preventive measures.
- Provide health and safety training and orientation to employees.
- Conduct emergency drills, including fire and evacuation drills.
- Maintain health and safety records, permits, and inspection reports.
- Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work with managers and employees to improve safety standards.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, contractors, and other relevant parties.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
### Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, or a related field.
- Professional health and safety certification is an advantage, such as:
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Two or more years of experience in a health and safety position is preferred. (Construction and Manufacturing)
- Good knowledge of workplace health and safety legislation and Manufacturing) Experience conducting risk assessments and accident investigations.
- Strong communication, report-writing, and presentation skills.
- Good problem-solving and organizational abilities.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to train and advise employees at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Physical ability to inspect work areas and use required safety equipment.
